Those pictures of the melted case gives me flashbacks of my 1/8 scale buggy.
How often are you doing maintenance on your DB?
Those bearings on the diff pinion gears are some of the worst culprits in my RCs. It doesn't matter what brand... they, and inner hub/spindle bearings, all seem to heat up and get abused more than any other bearing. I was going through 144~200+ bearings a year trying to keep a fleet of RCs ready for friends/family gatherings. I switched, many, many years ago, to grease for my bearing cleaning/relubing maintenance schedule. Some people just toss/replace bearings when they get crunchy. I like to save some money, and try to make bearings last as long as they can. It's a pain in the butt, and not worth it to many, to put effort into cleaning/relubing bearings.
My RCs get ran on extreme dusty (mid summer) backyard track, and since moving to grease to relube bearings with, my bearing costs were cut somewhere close to 75%. But I also do maintenance after every 12 runs.
