Ok, some comparisons for you guys. Here is the Fcx24 next to my 1/18 FJ. I'm calling the FCX24 1/18 scale in my book.

Here it is with the Hoplex bead lock wheel on the rear and the Axial Deadbolt wheel on the front.

I ended up pulling the wheels off of the FJ and putting them on the FCX24. I then put the Hoplex wheels on the FJ.

It worked out well because the FJ had a spare tire too. :)

I didn't pull the wheels off the Atlas, but thet looked like they would work fine. The one I am curious about is the Injora beadlocks. Did't have an extra pair, and didn't feel like taking a pair apart. Not sure if they fit, it looks like it might be tight because of the screws in the back of the rims.

Hope this was helpful. I do have a set of Injoras on the way, I will try them when they get here.

So has anyone figure out a way to fit SCX24 links and shocks on one of these?

What size screws do the FCX24s come with?

I have a feeling there’s a way to combine these parts but I’m scratching my head how to make that happen.

I haven't dug that deep into it, maybe down the road, I will pick up another to experiment with. Budget is still a bit thin at the moment.

Thank you for the warm welcome to the forum, and the humor and good cheer between members on this subforum, guys. You seem like a fun and knowledgeable bunch. I also appreciate the info.

I have been kicking around the idea of putting a new body on either my FCX24 or SCX24 Deadbolt.

Pic #1 Here’s how it looked mostly stock with stock body.

#2 Cheap RC toy Jeep body

#3 body from Harbor Freight crawler

#4 Ohhh yeeeeah. SNAP INTO IT!!

#5 oink! Dinosaur. Rawr!

Thanks, guys. Beta testing the Bronco body didn’t work so well. So damn heavy up top. Crawled horribly and tipped over way too easily. Check out how much this heavy pig weighed, haha. Back to the drawing board.

I seem to have stripped a rear portal. The car still runs but one of the rear wheels spins freely under load like an old open diff. I ordered metal portal gears but they might take a while to arrive. I’m actually thinking of trying out some metal SCX24 non portal axle assemblies on the FCX, using some combination of hardware to mate SCX links and shocks to the SCX axles and FCX chassis. I might try to drill out some of the SCX pivot balls to accommodate the bigger FCX screws and I’d use the SCX screws on the component ends that connect with SCX parts.

Then there’s the issue of whether the SCX spec servo (probably going to do another emax/ Injora servo mount combo on the SCX front axle) is compatible with the FCX receiver. Think that would be plug and play? I’m a noob when it comes to the electronics side of RC.

Am I off base thinking that losing the portal axles would make the FCX a better performer? This thing is crazy top heavy and losing the portals would drop the cg considerably. It might make it more reliable, too. But then again I’m not sure the SCX axles and gears would stand up to the added speed and power of the 130 and 2 speed combo. From the outside at least the FCX axle housings certainly look more beefy. Hopefully the metal upgrade gears in the aftermarket metal SCX axle assemblies would be up to the task.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

The one negative thing I can imagine about portals is the axles are usually pretty heavy, and you end up with a bit higher center of gravity using them, just to gain a bit of clearance. But from what I have seen in YT vids, the FCX performs great with them. But yeah, the portal gears are definitely their weak point.

I would be interested in hearing how the SCX axles do compared to the portals if you go that route. But it would be a lot of work to get the truck setup the same. Your link points change, shock mounts change, etc. It would be some work to get the truck riding at the same height. Personally, I would just wait for the metal gears.

One thing I will add is I am finding a full droop setup on these small SCX24 trucks, with a small bit of spring tension in the back to be an awesome setup. I would love to see an FCX running full droop.

Going to be a real challenge getting the two systems to mesh. I think you might do better to get the suspension from the fms unimog or atlas, if you want to go without portals.

I thought about the Atlas axles but wasn’t able to locate any online when I did a quick search. Do you know of a source? I didn’t look into the Unimog but thanks for the tip. I’m also concerned about delivery time. I’m not too familiar with FMS but I’ve heard rumor that parts can take a while to arrive. By contrast, I am far more familiar with SCX parts networks and I have SCX24 aftermarket metal axle assemblies which I ordered today on Amazon and which are due to arrive Sunday.

I’m totally willing to order some FMS non-portal axle assemblies as well, to have on hand if the SCX stuff doesn’t work out. I did order metal portal gears and extra portal axle assemblies from Fair RC a few days ago. I’ll try whatever option gets here first, first.

Not sure where to order spare axle assemblies short of ordering a whole rig. They must be available somewhere. I couldn't find anything on the FMS website. All the spares seemed to be body related.

I did pick up a set of the New Injora tires for my FCX24. The new rubber compound they are using is nice and soft and slightly tacky. I know they offer three different styles so of course I went for the most aggressive one. ;) of course now I need another set so I can match my spare tire. DOH!

The tires look great! Are you putting those red stock wheels back on? I really like them.

The red stock wheels are really tall. The only tires that fit are the ones it came with. Not sure what I'm going to do with them yet. They won't fit on anything with a closed body. They do give you increased ground clearance but with a slight cg penalty.
