Stumbled across a YouTube video of this yesterday

Looks pretty interesting

Build it, paint it, and send it. The 1/16 MOJAVE GROM 4x4 RTA Kit delivers a hands-on RC experience. Everything you need to build and get running is in the box, including a 2S battery and charger. Grab the included tools, customize your clear body, and earn every full send moment. Just add polycarbonate spray paint to complete your customization.

Blah..... it's brushed. Most kits don't come with motors/esc/servo. This just doesn't "feel" like a kit like a Tekno kit. You can get the brushless version, RTR, for about same price.

It seems like they just got lazy and said "Here's all the parts, a cheap motor and all. Put it together yourself. And o yea, you gotta paint the body too."

If it was cheaper, it might be worth it, but, when it's gonna be the same price as the RTR brushed version, and you not only have to assemble it, but buy paint and paint the body as well, it's not. This almost seems like they are fishing to see how much interest they get in it, and, if they get enough interest, they will probably raise the price on the brushed RTR version, or drop it completely. Either way, they took a page from Traxxas book on this one, since Traxxas did the same thing with the 2WD Slash, as in, made an RTR version, and a kit, that were the same price for quite awhile, and, now the RTR is $30 more.

I’d hate to see them raise their prices, I was looking hard at their grom quake and gorgon when they weee insane the other week for $120ish. I bought a slash kit instead for my son’s birthday party for another friend to come and drive. The kit was as expected and even came with bearings (which was nice), I made sure there was grease where they’re should have been and put the usual twist on the shocks. The only miss on that was it has the old steering bell crank rather than the newer servo saver built in to it, not a big deal. Would have been even better for the same kit price if it came with the 272r and the newer bell crank and no electronics.

They need to put together a full kit version of them and drop the price another $20-$30, I’d buy 3 of them.

Well, to be fair, these kits aren't supposed to feel like a $700+ race kit.

These kits are aimed at newcomers to rc, and Arrma did the same thing with the Gorgon kit, which from what I can tell, people liked. A lot.

Good points. I guess it makes sense for newbies.

Yes, these half way taken apart RTR platforms are geared towards newcomers. For those in the know, the included "house brand" electronic gear is annoying.

I'd sooner buy a lesser-known brand roller than have to deal with a RTR RC platform that comes in pieces. I don't get it. They had a good thing going with great rollers... let's take the next step Arrma. When your so called "kit" needs every nut, bolt, screw, and fluid to be tightened or squirted into something... when I get to choose what electronics I want... give me a call.

The hobby is full of live-n-learn adventures. I'll try my best not to be that person who says, "I told ya so."

My final thought: If it gets people into the hobby, I'm all for it.

I actually like the concept, but completely recognize the points made.

I don't know much about "bashers", so for me, a "kit" like this would give me a better idea of how everything works, without having to decide on what parts to buy.

Same with the body. I actually really like the idea of the unpainted, semi-decorated body. Gives you a change to customize without having to invest a ton of time and/or money.

Even the brushed aspect. Now that I do have a "basher", a Volcano 16, which is brushed and only does about 18MPH, and my daughter has a 2wd brushed Slash, yes, I would love a brushless set up - I am desperately hoping for one (the Arrma Vorteks 223) for Father's day, but it doesn't look like that will happen, but I digress....
This would have been a great first basher. Or even a second if my daughter didn't have the Slash. I would learn how everything goes together AND get to put MY funk on it, looks wise, without a huge investment. Heck, if my daughter didn't already have the Slash, I might have gotten this for her

But I think a brushed set up is a great entry into the hobby. Even with my Volcano 16, I still had to dial down the speed limiter to get used to driving it. Now after a year, I am a little bored with it, but, it was a great way to learn. And by having to "build it", you gain an understanding of what the different parts are and how they go together. Great thing if you have to do repairs or want to do upgrades in the future. And you get a sense of pride from having to build it yourself.

Heck, I ALMOST just talked myself into buying one :hehe: :hehe: :hehe: :hehe: :hehe:

But that would be about half the cost of the Vorteks lol

But what do I know, I'm just a dumb 50 year old man that likes to play with toy cars 🤣

I think as we learn more, we want the good stuff, but that does not mean the beginner stuff isn't still fun. I really like all of my Groms, and my Gorgon. Top of the line? No. Still fun? Yes.

But that's why I Have a 6S Typhon and my now Retired 6S Mojave, for when I need a little something more. It's good to have variety, there is no one size fits all. I myself just don't have enough free time or energy to build a lot of kits ( Duh! Comp Fox anybody?). I did/do enjoy building the Comp fox, and upgrading my RTR's but honestly, the little bit of free time I get, I'd rather be driving them. Just my two cents worth.

What do they have against someone putting together shocks and diffs?

This is what kills it for me, too. If they followed suit with this and released a Losi nascar kit but left the diffs and shocks disassembled, racers would wipe that inventory out in a few seconds.

Fair enough and valid points

I like doing my building late in the evening when everyone else is in bed. Too late and dark to be driving or when the weather doesn't permit

See. I feel the opposite.
There's certain things I would rather not have to assemble, so this is perfect for me

I guess that's the beauty of the hobby, something for everyone

All great points.

But let’s be honest, whoever painted up that yellow on the body did a great job! Looks good and I’m not into yellow 🤣

These are all good points, and goes to show the best part of this hobby. Everyone has their own preference, which keeps things from becoming boring. Personally, I prefer to build, and, being disabled somewhat, I have a ton of time on my hands, but not enough funds to do too much. I actually thought about buying one of these just because of the black on the body. Do it in some Spaz Stix color change teal and purple with the black, but, I'm not really into the small scale stuff, so, I probably never will build one. It does give me an idea for a 1/10TH drag car body though.
