Well, I screwed up with this whole thing by not checking measurements. Not sure which way to go now. My own fault....
I assumed the shaft diameter of the brushed 390 motor was 3.175 so I went with that when trying to use the stock pinion with new motor that has 2.0mm shaft diameter. Ordered reducing sleeve from 2.0 mm to 3.175mm. It didn't fit..... So I looked up the specs for the brushed 390 motor (should have done this before hand) and shaft diameter is 2.33mm. I am really stupid for not checking that before hand. The pinion gear is 17t Mod1 2.33mm bore and it doesn't fit right on the 2mm shaft of new motor. In order to match the spur gear that came with this RC I would need a 17T Mod1 with 2.0mm bore but i don't think there is such a thing. I've found lots of 17T mod1 gears but most of them have either a 5mm or 3.175 bore which doesn't help me at all. So my question now is, do I spend more money to change motor with larger shaft diameter to get the right 17T mod1 pinion gear to work or just give up on the whole thing and go back to brushed 390 motor and chalk up the money I spent as bad experience ??? Very frustrated.
I guess the hobby fans 4500kv motor i posted earlier would be one of my options since I've found 17T Mod1 pinion gear that would fit the shaft diameter.

As far as I know, from working with a WLToys car in the past, they use a mod .7 gearset. I can't imagine them running a mod 1 gearset on that small a motor. Are you SURE you need a mod 1?

Show me a picture of your spur, and your pinions you have so far.

There’s no way that’s a mod 1 pinion. Mod 1 is a very aggressive pitch of gear and the pinions are large.

That’s is more than likely a mod 0.7 gear that WL Toys uses. It’s not standard and pinion gears can be difficult to find. The blog I just linked is pretty much the Bible for WLToys vehicles and should tell you exactly what to look for.

No, At this point I'm not sure about anything. Here is the specs I was able to come up with.

It's worth a shot to try it, don't have any cheaper options at this point. Will be some time next week before it arrives. All i have to lose is the $8.99 + tax....lol lol... Really wish that was funny but I'm not seeing it that way at this point.... I can't really see myself giving up at this point, Especially with the amount of $ I've spent on this car already or maybe it's a sign that I should before i spend any more. I don't really know anymore. Would like to enjoy the experience. Thank you all for your advise

So, it does sound like you have mod1 gearing. How did that happen? You're going to need a mod.7 spur to go with that ebay gear, but that should solve your problem. You just need to find out what size gear, because you're already stepping way down on your pinion size going from a 19mm diameter to a 13.4. You're likely going to need a smaller diameter spur to be correct. Does your slots for motor adjustment allow that much change?

That is the way I received the car new back in 2015 or 2016 from Banggood.com. (Not sure of the exact date) I used it for a while after I got it and started adding metal parts to it. just recently decided to pull it out to give me something to do. I'm Retired and live alone so I find things to keep me busy and focus on something.

Any Idea where i would find the Mod.7 spur gear ?? I appreciate your help very much..... TY

Bro, Have you even read anything I've posted? Let me repost my very first reply to you in this thread...

"The stock kit comes with a Mod .7, 17T pinion with a 2.3mm bore. Assuming that you are looking for the stock pinion then you'll probably have to order it from WLToys HERE, as it looks like 2.3mm bore isnt commonly found in mod .7. I did find a 15T mod .7 2.2mm bore HERE on Amazon but most 2.3mm bore pinions are going to be mod .5."

Did you think I was just spitting out random numbers here? I also already told you in another post that the gearing on that RC is not mod 1.

If his gear measures 19mm diameter, and has 17t, it is indeed a mod1 gear. Which is strange, because WLToys is known to use mod.7 on a lot of their kits.

This creates quite the conundrum then for a few reasons.

1) I've never seen an 1/18 scale rig with mod 1 gears stock. (Pretty sure I've never seen a 1/10 scale that comes with mod 1)
2) I've never seen a mod 1 gear with a 2.3mm bore and I couldnt turn one up with a quick google search
3) I'm not sure you could fit a 19mm diameter pinion in a 1/18 scale rig.

At this point I'm questioning his measurement.

No idea. Like I said, if his gear does indeed measure 19mm, that is the exact figure for a mod1 17t pinion 🤷‍♂️

Mod 0.7 is really close to 32 pitch. If you’ve never seen a mod 1 gear, I can see how it could look like a mod 1 gear as 32 pitch is pretty aggressive as well. I would be interested to if OP could snap a picture with calipers showing the measurements. If he is indeed correct on his measurements, then I have a lot more questions 😂

I’m not convinced it’s a mod 1 pinion. Looking at OP’s picture it looks like mod 0.7 and with the stock gearing of 38/17, that would be pretty tall gearing for mod 1. My sledge or kaiju isn’t even geared that tall with full on 1/8 motors. A little 380 brushless motor would cook itself id think.

All of this could’ve been avoided if WLtoys just used a standard 48p or 32 pitch gears. But that’s a conversation for another day lol

The motor can is 24mm. At 19mm, that pinion would be dang near the diameter of the motor itself. The pinion he has pictured doesn’t look nearly that big.

It’s probably in OP’s best interest to take a deep breath, walk away for a little bit and come back to it with fresh eyes. We could all be wrong and while I hope where not, so we can get OP back to having some fun… it would be really neat to see mod 1 gears on a 1:18 rig lol.

If it pleases the court, I actually have a 17t mod 1 pinion in my parts bin. I don’t have a 48p pinion with the same teeth count as the one he has pictured in another post, but it should work good enough just how big of a difference there is. The pinion that came on his old motor is definitely somewhere between these two gear pitches.
