Hi, I need new pinion gear but not exactly sure how to determine which one i need. I will briefly explain and maybe you can help me. I have 1/18 WLTOYS A959 RC car. From factory it came with with 17T motor gear and 38T drive shaft gear. I decided to upgrade to brushless motor but new motor has 2mm shaft and old motor had 3.175 shaft. I need 2.00mm shaft size motor gear that will match the bigger 38T drive shaft gear. I found one I thought would work with 2.00mm shaft size and 17T but they don't match up correctly. See attached pics... I hope i explained it correctly. Can you help me ?

The stock kit comes with a Mod .7, 17T pinion with a 2.3mm bore. Assuming that you are looking for the stock pinion then you'll probably have to order it from WLToys HERE, as it looks like 2.3mm bore isnt commonly found in mod .7. I did find a 15T mod .7 2.2mm bore HERE on Amazon but most 2.3mm bore pinions are going to be mod .5.

The stock motor in the A959 "Brushed 390" I thought was 3.175mm shaft diameter. Yes, I have the gear that camo off of that motor. that is what i having an issue with. I bought an upgrade kit for this car from ebay that included Brushless motor 2mm shaft, 35A ESC, Servo, Remote transmitter and receiver. and i see know why i should have passed on it.... Any suggestions? will a different motor /ESC combination that has same shaft diameter as old motor work in this car?

Does this reducing option put extra stress on the motor? Just curious ....

The motor I was sent is from surpass hobby it's a 2435-4800kv brushless. do you think this will be enough to power this RC ?

I was able to get specs for the gears, They are Mod1. Are they available with 2mm Bore ? See Attached pics ...

Yes, that motor will power your rig with the proper gearing. The reducer won't add any extra strain.

Mod 1 is way too big for an 1/18 scale rig. Mod 1 is what is typically used in 1/8 scale rigs. I highly doubt you'll find a mod1 gear with a 2mm bore. For a rig that size, you should be using something like 48P or mod .7

The original configuration that was in the car when i bought from WLToys had a brushed 390 motor with 3.175 shaft size gears @ 17T pinion & 38T spur. I ordered a brushless motor upgrade and the motor that was supplied in that kit was a model 2435-4800kv with 2mm shaft (See included pic) So I'm just trying to make everything work together. I messaged the supplier of the upgrade kit i bought about this issue but he had no other information. I probably should have done a little more investigating before buying the upgrade it. What would be the recommended setup for this 1/18 size car? Car is a WLToys A959 with all aluminum chassis and suspension upgrades. Pic shows new 2mm motor installed with original 38T spur gear on drive line. Thank you.

Just grab THIS reducer and use the original pinion.

I have ordered the reducer from Robinson racing, delivery is set for march 17th. I went ahead and ordered the reducer from amazon because delivery is tomorrow. I'm gonna try both versions and see which one works best without issues. They were both under $10 so will be a cheap and easy fix.
Any advise on what would be the best Motor/ESC combination for this car. Depending on performance of this 4800kv motor/35A ESC I may want to look into a different setup. Since I've spent more than i should have on the chassis and suspension upgrades already, I'm kinda wanting to stick with it now. Thank you all for you suggestions and advise. I will update when i have some results to share

The one I linked from Amazon is from HotRacing so it should be fine

The reducers are a little different so it will be interesting to see how they perform, But I'm optimistic that they will work well

This Hobby Fans Motor/ESC Has 3.175mm shaft diameter which would pretty much solve the Pinion gear issue I am having with the Surpass Hobby 2mm Motor shaft diameter. Are there any other advantages or disadvantages to using this motor ? Or is the shaft diameter the only advantage ?
