I'm sure you have all herd the scam where you get a huge check take your share and send the rest back to the person that bought from you...right? Well I just got an email with this offer. He wants to send me $3000.00 I keep $400.00 for my truck and send the rest back to him.

I'm bsing him right now but who can I contact to catch this idiot?

PS: He has an active account on rc universe but I'm not familiar with this site and can't find any contact info for this type of situation.

Tell the admin or one of the mods what he's doing, and see if they'll give up his ip or at least report his ip for you so he can be tracked down. (lol, just my suggestion, I really don't know if it's the right way to go about it tho.. )

*ahem* this one I know about, lol. Stuff like this is basically a 419 scam. Your best bet is to contact the bank it was drawn on, and turn the check over to them. Tell them the history behind it, where it came from, etc. You won't get any money, but you won't get in trouble.

The key here is to NOT cash it, obviously.

For further reference, contact the admin at 419legal.org - this guy is a law enforcement agent out of South Africa. He has jurisdiction over these dirtballs, and can arrest them, given enough evidence.

Reason I know all this; I used to bait them (for fun)..

Thanks for the advise, I'm trying to contact a mod on rc universe (not easy) and I also dropped a dime on the site Ratzo posted. Just have to wait and see.

Contact the bank as well, Smaxxin. Odds on, the check is stolen, and they will contact the victim (well, other victim) and let them know to put a stop on checks.

It's called a nigerian scam.
oh yeah thats the correct name for it.i work in a ford dealership (parts) and you have to see all the scams they try to pull along with credit card fraud.

If I was you, Id say have him send ya the check, then hold it until it clears, and if it does clear (Which I'm sure it wont) Keep it! Scam the sammer!

Only problem with this is he could be arrested as an accessory. Even if it doesn't clear, he could and most likely would get nailed for the crime.

This site is a perfect reference for the inner workings and the varients of the scams; http://www.419eater.com/ - Warning; they bait the scammers on the site (distract them from REAL victims), and in doing so, get them to do things that could be construed as degrading to any human (no matter how low). Example; holding signs that say silly stuff, posing with animals, etc.
