So I have about a quarter acre back yard that at one point I had a pretty large 1/8 off road track set up on. I am thinking of rebuilding it now that my kids are older and really getting into the hobby. But they really love racing the mini's and micros. So I was thinking instead getting a 30x40 metal building put in and turning it into a legit mini/micro race center. For reference I do have a great 1/8 track within 15 minutes of my house as well. I would love for either way I go for me to be able to invite other racers over eventually for weekend events lol.

Since you already have an 1/8 track close, I'd go mini/micro? My closest 1/8 track is 40 minute drive, but close enough that there's no sense in my building one, too.

Keep us posted!

If you can afford the building or even just a large covering, go that route; make it capable to run some 1/10 - 1/12 size stuff and it will be huge for anything 1/18 and smaller. That leaves you some room to grow just in case the minis pull you into some bigger vehicles.
It’s just a thought.

do you guys think that the local racers, only 1/8 scale from what I can tell would want to race minis and micros?

Since you have a track nearby I voted mini track. Minis can be a ton of fun. That size pad you would have room for a crawler course at one end too….just sayin’

Based on what @DavidB1126 says about minis, no one is racing them at his tracks, I would guess you won't find lots of 1/8 scale racers looking for a new way to spend money on smaller, slower cars.

Maybe your track will be so great that ppl will want to try a new class.
I would prob ask some ppl at the current 1/8 track how they feel about it and if they currently do own any 1/14 scale.

I am a 1/10 scale fan. Almost all my cars are 1/10.
I don't think I would buy a 1/14 scale to race.

Thank you for the input, i wish i had the room for 1/10 honestly, there isn't a 1/10 track anywhere to be found around me.... And I don't have enough space for an indoor 1/10.... I would love to go up in scale with my track someday if I can find a space for it. And most of the people I know dont want offroad 1/10, they want carpet... So I can't do that either.

Mini's are cool. But they are fragile. And don't do good on anything other than smooth tracks, IMO. They just bounce around a lot. I talked to my local track Boss and he said he tried a Mini class. But hardly anyone finished the raced due to mechanicals. So he stopped doing them.

I reserve the mini's for making crazy indoor tracks, patios, driveways. Add some cones and some homemade wood jumps and you're golden.

If you go mini, be sure to stock up on a-arms. They're the first to go.
