Step 1, read through the instructions. My hubby would be proud šŸ˜†

Your hubby should be pretty darned proud anyway to have a wife so skilled at hopping up toy cars šŸ˜‰
I hope so! I think he is; I mean it's way better than a wife that collects shoes šŸ˜‚

Caveat. Sometimes I have to look past his blank stare when I come up with some crazy idea. Lol!

Got back to it this morning, building the shocks. Red is not my favorite color, but I have to admit once these were assembled they do look pretty sweet.

Shock pistons complete. I launched an e-clip across the room. That was fun to find, lol. E-clips are just as I remember them, kind of annoying, but very effective 😁.

O-rings installed

Lower shock caps installed

My very official shock stand

Shocks filled and waiting for bubbles to rise to the top.

After sitting for a bit, I topped them off a little more so they'd be overfilled when I installed the diaphragm and the the upper shock caps.

Springs installed! For now I just put the 1.2mm spring set on front and rear, though I'll likely change out the rear springs (and who knows, maybe the front) once I see how the rebound interacts with the rest of the car. Plus I can always adjust the aluminum collars.

Pretty!

Looks like quality stuff. The manual is very good too. I wonder if the bore size of the shocks is similar to the Traxxas big bores. Once my shocks were worn in and drained/refilled several times I noticed the bladder didn't fit well enough to seal when rebuilding. I used the Big bore bladders and they were a perfect fit (for the 1/14-1/12 scale shocks).
Of course, I had all those parts laying around, since I still can't rebuild any of my big bores. That dang circlip is just too difficult to get back in.
Carry on!

All the parts so far have been fitting up nicely. Not sure on the bore size, but that would be something to look into. I find it difficult sometimes to find the specs I want. I'll know after the first run, if I've got these shocks built as intended 😁.

Looks great so far... I considered one of these, but not sure I want to add another brand to source spare parts for.
That's understandable. My current fleet is one of each brand, so I'm kind of a mess I guess. I will say the replacement parts for LC are very reasonably priced on their website. I was surprised.

Looking good! You're making me jealous. I bet a rally car would be a fun build.
I've been enjoying the build very much. I'm currently researching motors for put on this rig, everything I research has led me to calculations that make this car VERY fast!! šŸ˜‚

Hey TeknoJ, as a Rally enthusiast and I researched about this KIT and this kit is actually recommended by my IRL community for competition-ready.

It's a good choice to pick one or either you can pick XV02 by Tamiya. You can also pick the HNR Foxhound (Lancer Evo) RTR and the kit is actually very similar with PTG2R. Also the spare parts are quite cheap for PTG2 & HNR Foxhound here in my country, not sure about yours~

I would imagine any 3650 sized motor would be fine. I’ll be honest I don’t know what the manual suggests. I’d go for something you could run a 2s HV or a 3s for some extra ā€œlets see what happens hereā€ zip!

Yea that's exactly it. The manual says 540 size motor, so basically 3650-52. I'm looking for exactly that, a motor that could run 2s or 3s. 3s for the "send it" factor šŸ˜…

I've got an old Onyx combo, 70A esc with a 3650- 4000kv motor, I've never used... I thought it'd be perfect for that car... one of the reasons I was considering it.
I just checked that out. Looks like a pretty nice setup. I like that it's the combo to eliminate additional guess work on and ESC. Looks like it plugs in with one of the T connectors for the battery. I have an old charger with those connectors. I kinda wanted to use my newer Traxxas balance charger, just solder on the ends for that one, but not sure what folks thoughts are on that; it charges pretty quick which is nice. I'm trying to avoid another charging bank if I can, we'll see how that pans out. Either way, I've added that to my motor/ESC list.

I'm not sure they're made any longer, I bought several at close out prices awhile back. The other two came with a 3000kv motor, which I used in my two 2WD Traxxas models. All came with EC3 power connectors.
