Yea. You and @Littlemotor have good points. CF is pretty darn durable. I have a CF bike and bike wheels with no issues :)
I’ve got a CF brake rotor sitting here in front of me for a 1/8 nitro buggy, and it measures 3mm thick.. It’s likely 75% the size of an LC Racing 1/14 front shock tower for their truggy at least.. If you could break this little thing in a crash, you have SERIOUSLY done something.. almost ALL 1/10 4wd mod buggies use CF towers, and they have no issues, and are LIGHTNING FAST.. Just putting that out there.. 🍻🤘

The entire reason the transmission housing got destroyed on the Jato that Chewy now has is because the trans housing had a heavy aluminum shock tower bolted to it. Had it had a lightweight carbon tower, or the stock plastic one, it would likely not have broke.

There is not a lot of difference in size. I do feel like you're more likely to get stronger, heavier, better parts on 1/10 scale because a 1/10 scale is generally designed for the track. Thats a broad statement but I think its correct in the same way that 1/8 scale is way tougher than 1/10 scale generally.
1//10 and 1/12 scale in this case is only 1", maybe 1.5"? Not a big difference compared to 1/10 to 1/8.

What folks on thoughts between 1/10 and 1/12 scale?
Uh, I only have the LC12b1 and nothing else 😁 Its been a great car and I have never broken anything. I don't beat on it though. Its a lot of fun and has been every class of vehicle. Rally Car, Baja bug, SCT, Buggy, now it's a Truggy. The 1/12-1/14 scale is basically universal. It is built very well.
I don't know anything about the 1/10 stuff, but the PTG has always been a car I have wanted specifically for a Rally Car chassis. I mean, it IS advertised as a Rally Car with a Lancia Delta body. Killerbody RC makes that body, along with other bodies that are the same size.
This all applies of course to the reference of LC Racing stuff

Totally understand they are close in size. Leaning toward going 1/10 as the PTG-2R has some pretty good components in the kit. Plus I know I can get my BMW body, the Quattro and the Lancia for it, which should be enough to scratch the painting itch.

Body options are abundant at 1/10 scale. No tracks near me, so I don't break stuff very often either. The hope is if I get another 1/10, mom gets to drive her BMW and the kiddo, she can drive the 1/10 Rovair, I'm sure it won't work out that way 😆

I think you'll enjoy this build and it will inspire more. The 3 bodies gives it 3 different looks so you can have different car every day! 😁
I agree, there are lots of 1/10 scale bodies so you can keep it fresh with new ones for as long as you feel like painting them. 😎
I think if you run 2.2" tires, you'll have tons of tire options too.

Absolutely! I love it. It's going to be hard to no pull the trigger on this kit in the next day or so. 😄

Hey buddy thanks for visited my thread yesterday! I hope you're going to have a nice experience building those toys hahaha

PTG-2R is a very good kit even without additional hop-up parts! You may focus on RX/TX, ESC, Motor, Gyro & if I were you I will more focus on body details such lighting kit, exhaust, sound system and best you can have is long-range FPV headtracking system with CADDX / DJI.

Here's some video for FPV system installation:

For Rally-oriented result you can check this:

Having an RC Rally car is like you have a GT sensation with Buggy attitude, have fun with that and cheers!

You're welcome! I still love that Datsun body and even more now that I've seen it drive!

I'll be digging into more, ESC for sure. Hopefully by the time it's built, I'll have the Fkysky GT5 TX/RX, at least I think that's what I want for this one, otherwise I'll look into another model. I can use the GT5 for my TRX4. The stock receiver can't plug in all my extra goodies (at least not that I've found). I'm still missing where to plug in the AUX for my ESS dual speaker.

All my cars get lighting kits because I love lights and the more the better! I'll add the ESS dual to the rally rig as well. Thanks for the FPV info, that's one thing I've not started down the rabbit hole on.

You can buy the clear one if you want to! Click here

Here's my Datsun electronic wishlist for your reference:
Motor: Hobbywing EZRUN 3652SD 5400KV G3
ESC: Hobbywing EZRUN MAX10 G2 140A
RX/TX/Gyro: Radiolink RC6GS V3 or DumboRC DDF-350 10CH with X10F(G)

Nowadays FPV system have a 3-axis gimbal + headtracking < those factors makes me really wanted to go FPV Long Range!

I've added the Datsun to my growing wish list of RC bodies for the Rally car 😁

Does any have recommendations of shock oil weight? 20wt, 30wt, 40wt? I'm thinking likely 30wt since I'll be running mainly off road and better absorption from jumps...
30 is probably middle of the road here to start. It depends on the springs though too. You will just have to test. I'm sure the kit will make suggestions.

Yea I agree. Kit does recommend 350-700cst front; 350-600cst rear. 😊
