wow that’s crazy so many tires idk if i’ll ever have THAT many all at once lmao

side not I saw someone selling some buggy tires on marketplace and they also had clay in the wheels lol

There was a time I thought the same.. While not at all typical for most folks, they suit my requirements to a tee for sure.

And yessir, it’s fairly common to see…. Best way to do it imo..😉

I bought a knock-off one a few years ago and it works great. The only mod I had to do was for 17mm hex. The cones weren't seating completely, so I put a 17mm nut in the middle as a spacer.

Balancing wheels is a bit of a pain but worth it if you run any high RPM. It's easier on your gear and the car drives much better too.

Edit: I also had to add a piece of nitro tubing as the stopper. The rubber piece they included was junk.

I use a wheel hex, and wheel nut. Works great. And yep-piece of fuel tubing.

The main rod for mine arrived with a bend in it.., The ONE PIECE you need to be dead straight…😳🙄

I spent a good bit of time straightening it out. “Calibrating” it, checking the balance with no wheel, then with to get it dialed in.. I got it right before I began balancing.. over the years I have absolutely noticed that while Dubro had the ability to make some nice stuff for us RC idiots; their quality control is non-existent… although-a fair portion of this hobby had always register a general UNfukking of a product you have recently purchased as you get it out of the packaging, so that it’s actually useable…🤷🏻‍♂️🤣

Well then it's possible they just rebranded the same Chinesium crap I bought?

Your right. We have the problem of Filet Mignon tastes on a Hamburger budge.t.

I’m leaning more toward the Chinesium stuff you got is a copy of the Dubro. It’s been around for 30+yrs, I mean you know-if the Chinese would ever do such a thing…🤔🤣

These two batches I’m doing of buggy, and truggy total 27 sets. I’ve got (3) truggs, and (2) bugs atm, and two more e-buggies coming shortly.. in the neighborhood of 50 total including what’s being replaced. I’ll gather them as I see some I know I’ll need when they’re a good deal, and typically rotate some out, and some in.. I just happen to be doing an absurd amount this go ‘round, as I added a vehicle or two, to the stable, and knew I had two more coming very soon.

I run on a mixed bag of surfaces on a handful of private backyard tracks, so I have what I feel covers multiple vehicles, and under multiple conditions. I have a few double sets, as I have a few double vehicles, and some nitro, and brushless versions of the same. Typically what works well for a specific surface, and condition that day on that truck, will work well on one or two more I’m running.

Like I said-I gather them over time as I foresee needing them, and the RC slush fund allows. It just so happened that I ended up doing a mass punch, clean, prep, mount, glue, and balance all at once this time.. I knew I’d be doing “yearly” maintenance, and a couple rebuilds, as well as a new build or two, so I just ended up with a LOT of stuff being completed together. Not USUALLY this busy on RC stuff.. 😅🤷🏻‍♂️

That being said……The buggy batch is wrapped up, and ready to rock..🤩

That’s a decent amount of weight as you can see.. Just under 3oz of weight over (12) sets..

Out of 48 total wheel/tire assemblies; TWO took zero weight. One was a JConcepts Dirt Bite aqua (A2) on a Promotion wheel, and the other was a TZO 202 soft on a TZO wheel.

The worst were some GRP Cubic’s on DE Speedline’s, and some VP Pro Turbo Trax Evo’s that I ordered in Soft, but showed up HARD AF, and the set of ProMotion dished wheels they went on actually had (2) with quite a bit of high/low runout.. Sure seems like the hole is off center.. So those were super fun, and took a decent amount of weight… Still won’t make ‘em ROUND though..🙄

Not too awful bad overall. The GRP’s were to be expected, but the ProMotion wheels being off center was not typical for those at all.. Ya win some-ya lose some..

Truggy next, and donezo finally… althoughhhhhh-there is a distinct possibility I’ll be grabbing (4) more specific sets for the new buggy in particular.. I know-I need my head examined…🤪🤷🏻‍♂️🤣
I'm guessing if they examined your head, it might just be full of that clay! That is an INSANE amount of tires and wheels!
You're an animal! 👍🏻

You should see the OTHER truggy batch thread I posted last night lol 😅… And thanks brothaman!! 🍻🤘

I'm starting to get the feeling that you're the guy who backs a 40' trailer up to the track while everyone else is carrying in their pit bags! 🤣
I balanced some of my tires back in the day. Trued foams with a sanding block more or less...
I'm just watching and taking notes.
I'm hoping to pick up pointers now that I got a tiny light on in my head about running at a track again.
My trailer is just a 12' open but it tilts! 🤣
I forgot about balancing but its a good point.
The tires on the Granite and Gorgon are big and heavy.
Would be a good place to start practicing!👍🏻

Nah-I’m just the dangerous (in my own mind 😈🤣) unsuspecting guy, that puts in extra time, and work is all..😅

I’m just happy if threads like these can help someone out, or make life easier, have some expensive parts last longer, or a vehicle perform to its full potential.. The forums used to be stacked full of how to’s, tips and tricks, modification step by steps, and other neat write ups about stuff that others were unsure of, or had flat out never heard of before.. That’s the main reason I liked the forums over fakebook groups n’ shiit.. But like I said-if I can provide inspiration, help someone out, share a trick, or even just get a chuckle outta someone-then that’s awesome. 🍻🤘

And yessir-the bigger the tire, the better.. It used to be that due to nitro 1/8 rigs-starter boxes were everywhere.. Not so much in the bashing scene today but if you’ve ever seen a buggy with unbalanced wheels/tires warming up; they would about jump off the damned box! And don’t even get me started on truggy….😳 You can bet your assss that goes with them to the track surface too! And driveline, bearings, hingepins, rod ends, blocks, pills, etc.. 😉

So maybe more like tge guy who shows up wit a car, radio and 2 pack in they're pocket and leaves with 1st place A trophey???
I think my days of competetive driving are prob behind me but I'm looking forward to getting my crappy old car on a retro class track to see what we can do! 👍🏻
I'd like to make the car as good as possible so its my skills that need practice, not so I can be trying to compensate, say for unbalanced tires! 🤣.
I have already picked up some great info from you! Def keep it coming! 👍🏻

Definitely closer to that lol.. 🤣

I’m not super serious-just particular about my yearly maintenance, and Uber important shiit like my tires.. If you do a bullshiit job-you pay for it everytime you drive..🤷🏻‍♂️

Remember-I’m absolutely not a “racer”-I run on a handful of backyard tracks with friends, and laidback, like minded folks. I raced legitimately until it was ONLY about winning, and the fun immediately went away..

Take that transponder off-and RC is fun again. Go figure.. 🤩🤷🏻‍♂️ I just so happen to prefer race grade kits for a multitude of reasons, and based on my own personal experience, and what I’ve observed of others over my 35+yrs in the hobby.

I could honestly have a ball running a Tamiya Lunchbox around a dirt oval on some Bolink pan car foams for real, and have.. I don’t ever mean to come off like I’m above ANYTHING, or hating on anyone or their ride of choice. 1/8 *uggies just do it for me at the current time, and have for the last 20yrs or so, so that’s gonna be the majority of experience I can chime in on, or point toward when asked.. The bottom line imho, is don’t allow anyone else to run you off from the hobby, and run whatever makes you happy! And as Ryan Lutz will tell ya- “Keep RC Fun!”.. 🍻🤘

I totally aggree. I was struggling with the idea that I wanted to run something different on the track. I'm not sold on Associated and I don't care for their parts dept at all so...
I always ran Kyosho and always liked them so screw it! I'm buying one and I'm running it.
I'm not the best driver so I don't need the best car. For its time, the Optima Mid was a damned good car. Maybe by combining the new and old parts, I'll have a 30 year old track destroyer.
Who knows???
I have fun dreaming up the build and then building it.
Running the car is the "...and eating it too." part of "having my cake"!
I hope to get better at driving again. Maybe I'll have different needs by then too.
One way or another, its about my time and my enjoyment at the track. Challenging myself to do better.
Nothing to do with "winning".
Winning "happens" if you do all the other parts "right". 👍🏻

Finally… Some light at the end of the tunnel..🤷🏻‍♂️🤣

All calibrated/dialed in.. Took some finesse, but she’s money, and ready to knock out 108 1/8 buggy, and truggy tires/wheels.. Saved a shiit ton sourcing some modeling clay, rather than buying from AKA or someone through an online vendor, or LHS.

Using a spare wheel hex, and nut to center them up in the cones. I’m excited AF. 😜🤩
