Buggy stuff has been wrapped up, so it’s time to spit out the truggy batch.. Got my solder pulling extra hours with the heavy trugg kicks.. Had to repair a pissspoor glue/prep job on a set of Reflex’s that came from elsewhere, and I’ll be rebalancing them as well. Definitely gonna go through some clay this time around.. Nuthin’ but a thang…🍻🤘

For reference, this is a fair amount of weight added to take care of the imbalance.. This makes a tremendous difference in both your driveline/bearings, and driving characteristics. This is also a quality JConcepts tire, on a JConcepts wheel. They don’t take as much weight as others in my experience.. A lower quality tire/whl combo, bad glue job, subpar insert, etc. Will require much more than shown here.. This is why it’s not an “optional practice” for me personally, but a requirement. I wanna take care of my stuff, and have predictable vehicles on the track, or during a bashing sesh..🍻🤘

These are VP-Pro Cactus (soft) on ProMotion wheels.. Very well made tire, and aside from a fluke (haven’t seen it but one time) buggy wheel I had, -very spot on wheels as well. No crazy runout, flawless mounting/gluing (imo 🤣), and there’s quite a bit of difference in imbalance between (4) whl/tire combos..

Definitely blowing through a good amount of clay on the truggy batch..😅🤷🏻‍♂️

I fashion the clay into little cubes for accurate application.. Fastest if I just make a run of these little guys all at once.

As for the balancing itself; A little at a time, and re-check saves time, and frustration.

Like I say-I’d much rather sneak up on it, than waste a bunch of time guessing, and having to remove added weight to arrive at the same place.. Note the two sticks in the ziploc just to the left in the background.. This was a new box of clay (4 sticks total) when I started on the 48 buggy tires.. I used just under half a stick on buggy duty. With 15 sets of truggy to be balanced, and a hair under half done at the time of this photo, there’s plenty. I could not imagine spending money on AKA clay, or the like from Amain.. Would be ludicrous.. 🙄

112 wheels and tires total, between buggy, and truggy. As should be expected-truggy took much more weight to counteract any imbalance..

Went through just at 1.25 sticks on truggy alone. The pile has been diminished significantly lolz..

I was absolutely amazed to have one tire, and wheel combo come in dead nuts at zero imbalance on the second to last set.. It was a JConcepts “Triple Dee” in Aqua A2 longwear compound, and on a black DE Racing dished wheel. Pretty dammiit uncommon for truggy..🤷🏻‍♂️

The downside to DE wheels is that every single one must be hit with the body reamer to slide over any 17mm wheel hex.. Doesn’t take much tbh.. Not a big deal-I’ve been running these for years now..

That’s not too bad imo, but I haven’t had to do that for any other wheel for a lonnnnng tiiiiime.. This batch includes (8) DE Racing, (1) TZO, and (6) ProMotion.. Zero issues to speak of with any of the wheels as far as excessive runout, hops, or otherwise..

I do have a few straggler’s headed my way specifically for the new buggy-so I’m not COMPLETELY finished with wheels, and tires, but we’re close at least lol…🤷🏻‍♂️🤣 And of course it’s way past my bedtime-therefor too late for ice cream… Sonofabiitch..😅

It’s really not that bad, and the results to me are well worth the elbow grease.. When I DO sleep-I get maybe 5-7hrs on average… I’m old AF, so quality sleep left the building long ago..🤷🏻‍♂️🤣
