I don't plan to change the gear till it is worn. Most stuff on this car I will probably only fix or upgrade when it breaks. Which is what I want from an rtr. If the gear noise bothers you....drive further away,lol

I was thinking to try and put a brushless in it.
The stock car with stock options will be fine for me for a while but I am always thinking about how to get a bit faster, smoother, longer run time...
I thought a smaller spur with a mild brushless motor and pinion should help.

There are youtube videos of guys who dropped in a 17t brushed upgrade and get wheelies and 40s for top spèed....would cost about 15-25$ depending on how nice of a motor

Decided to poke around....bearings as promised....and actual grease I didn't have to put in there...

Is the center of the spur gear a hex or is it round?

It looks like it jumps well!

While I had this apart I measured it. It's a 5mm hex.

I changed the pinion from 26t to 25t today....both times better fitment occurs 1 size down from what is molded into the motor plate. 25t fits in 24 slot etc.

So that 5mm hex in the center of the spur gear is the only thing the top shaft has to drive the spur gear with?

Thats so weird that every pinion gear setting is 1 tooth off!

I'm gonna look for more vids of this car, hop ups...

The spur for previous models seems to be identical. Same hex. Same molding issues as the 2.0 model. People have tried using the previous version, it's the same. I guess the up side is that makes it sound like the hex is a legit concept since they are still using it

I think the nut holding the spur down is a big part of why it works.

The spur in that DeeRC did not like the 3800kv motor I put in it.

You guys have the wheels turning on how to fix this spur gear problem....we shall see...

I made some white nylon bushings as part of yesterday....no more slop in the rea control arms. Looks like they saved some $$ using the same parts front and back. The front arms fit great. The rear was a bit sloppy.

Its not a problem until its a problem... if its running well for you, change nothing!

Agreed....doesn't mean there is no time for plotting and scheming solutions for when I do need them.
You can see the red witness marks on the 25 holes from when mounted the 26t pinion, and where it's mounted now with a 25t. In the correctly labeled holes you won't even get the gears together ...never mind a good mesh. 1 down on both is just a hair tighter than I would like if I had adjustment options but with run good.

I don't care for that style mount. I like the adjustable sliding type that we've used for years.
I don't really struggle with getting mesh right nor with motors that won't stay put.
I wonder if they used to use a 92 tooth gear or something... just that tiny bit larger diameter.

Don't read into it too much. With the right composites and mild~moderate power plants... the spur gear is probably fine. I'm just not used to seeing something without a slipper nowadays.

I was thinking about this today....looking at my collection only 3 out of 10 are brushless. 1 came stock that way, and the other 2 are kits I had to get motors for.....

I was thinking a 17.5 or even 21.5. Nothing crazy, just smooth and easy. I think the spur set up should be fine with those range of motors.
The gear upgrades are all for better mesh and ratios. It seems there are limited options.

There is a lot of good performers still running brushed motors... I mean.... if the gearbox noise drives me over the edge, I have this hanging out on the workbench in a 4t so we can watch it blast uncontrollably into a wall...
