Direct RC has a new 24th scale drift chassis, and man, what a looker!

Nice looking chassis, should be interesting to see what folks set up.

Well that's adorable 😄. That chassis is super cool. Are there good body options for a 1/24 drift car? I am not familiar.
These 1/24 chassis' are designed to work with 1/25 scale model kits from Revell, AMT, Monogram, etc. The wheelbase is adjustable on them, so you can make it work with nearly any body.

Oh no. Well that's not good for me.
Thankfully the price point will keep me away....for now 😂

DirectRC has a few different 24th scale chassis. They're all pretty spendy though.

its really hard to justify spending that much on a 1/28th . . . .
Understandable. But most people think just because the parts are smaller for these micro scales, they should be cheaper. That is far from the truth though. Price oer pound, the most expensive parts I ever made could fit on my fingertip.

There is less material for sure. But material cost is just a small fraction of the overhead in manufacturing. The machining of these tiny parts requires micro tooling. Micro tooling requires taking very small bites of material, and the tooling breaks a LOT more often, and is not cheap. So you have to run with slower feedrates, and MUCH higher RPM, buringbl through more electricity, more man hours, and more shop time. Time that could be spent machining NASCAR transmissions, or parts for NASA.

On top of all that, the tolerances need to be MUCH tighter for things to work properly, making machining to specifications even more difficult. I am sure these small scale gems are sporting some ridiculously nice machining. There is no way they can't, and still function. A .002" tolerance on transmission bearing journals would be just fine in a 1/10 scale RC with 32p gearing. But on a micro with mod .3 gearing - .002" is enough for the gears to quickly turn into shrapnel.

That is why the price is higher. Because you are buying something held to a much higher standard, similar to 1/8 scale race kits, and even beyond that out of necessity 😉
