I finally got a winch! Got this off Amazon for about $20, and it came with everything! The only thing it didn't come with is a hook. I bought this cool looking hook separately, but it's huge, and it actually doesn't hook on things too well. I'm going to find a fishing treble hook that's more size appropriate, cut off the points and paint it red. I intend to use this winch on the trail!
The mounting via screws, is a real PITA, so I'm going to see how gluing it down with E6000 will work. I just did a quick test, and so far, the adhesive is holding! The motor seems to have more than adequate power to drag this heavy rig. So far, I'm quite impressed with this winch! Time will tell the durability.

Looks awesome man!

I went to the local rc shop today to pick up a few small things and came home with this:

This truck has been piqueing my interest lately, so when I saw it at the store today....I totally caved!
Busy tonight, so won't get to unbox it until tomorrow.
I see them often around my local craw spot. They do really well on just about everything.

Thank you!

Another thing I really like about this winch, that I forgot to mention, is that it actually uses a steel cable and not nylon cordage, like other brands.
Oh thats sweet.. alot of winch company's are switching over to the nylon cord/strap.. Because the steel cable when it snaps.. Its not a good thing to be around.. can do some serious damage. The nylon basically just drops to the ground..I personally like the cables.. doesn't fray like the straps against objects... very cool man👍👍

They look great, they perform well, and the price is doable! Everyone should own one 😉

I always cringe when I see videos of winches, with steel cable, being used, and someone is standing near the cable giving maneuvering instructions.

Yeah that's never a good place to be.. those cable depending on the tension will leave a mark need less to say 😬😬

Found some treble fishing hooks that are a size I like. I pinched in the barbs and grinded off the sharp points, and borrowed some red nail polish from one of my girls. I like it!
This little winch is pretty dang strong! Dragged my very heavy Scout across the floor with the brakes fully on. I made a quick video in the backyard, over a boulder section that none of my rigs can clear.

Sweeeet! That looked like it was going to pull the truck right through the rock!

Works well for sure! I wonder how hard it would be to make a tow truck using one of these.
Have seen it done a bunch of times. There is a guy in one of my FB groups that makes sick @$$ crawler tow trucks. This first one is 1/16 scale.

That's pure artistry!

LOL
That's because it was only running on 6V 😁
Dam that little guy got some pull
NICE!!👍👍 wonder if it would pull the X out of trouble 🤔 😏 😉 🤪🤪

Last weekend I was on-call, and as luck would have it, I got the dreaded call to report to work. Not what I wanted to hear while I was enjoying a nice Saturday afternoon. The worst part was that it was a 7pm-7am shift. There went the weekend! 😠
Well, at least it was all over time. It was at least a consolation prize to think what I would do with that extra chunk of change. No, I just didn't need another crawler! Then it occurred to me to upgrade Jalapeno. I wanted a much better powerplant.
I've been seeing the Hobbywing Quicrun Fusion crawler system on YT quite a bit, and it looks quite impressive. So, I went on Amazon and placed an order. Last night, I got it installed. The GEN8V2 design made it fairly simple to access the motor. The motor with the built-in esc fits nicely with about a quarter inch to spare from the steering servo. No issue with installing the stock pinion gear onto the new can.

So, how does it perform? Awesome!

No more jerkiness like the brushed motor. It can get down to some seriously low rpm, smooth as butter, and yet deceptively powerful! I am very happy with this upgrade. At under $160, it's worth every penny!
The only drawback is that, at only 1800k, the high speed is greatly affected. Not a big deal, just have to find a different gearing ratio.

So, how smooth is it?
