Hi Everyone! Hope your day is nice and bright!

I'm here for advice.
Start looking at 1/8 buggy. Due to i already own 2 of Hobao's (TT2.0 + SSTE) - obviously - looking at VS** buggy.
Not looking for any kind of "bashers" more towards racing style buggy, just to have 2 different class RC's (trtuggy+buggy) for me and my wife

I know, that best will be to go for EB48 2.2...but...... it's out of budget and toooo professional for me, if i could say so.
for my SSTE i've paid roughly 500 pound fully build (ARR + Electronics) and EB48 here in the UK will be about 650-700 just for the kit...so overall it will ends up about 1k. I do also know that if i will put all the availible upgrades into VS** - it will ends up roughly same amount of money (but i don't must put the upgrades straight away)
Not sure which VS option will come with NOT pillow balls steering option. (not sure how to name other front hubs option)

Whatever advice will be MUCH appreciated!!!

P.S.
also looking at Losi 8 buggy, but itt comes as an RTR and not sure how good racing and durability-wise is it. as well as parts support here

The Hobao cars are really good value from what I’ve heard, never owned one though. Is there a reason you don’t want a pivot ball front suspension? I’ve heard arguments for/against but never had a problem or noted a real difference between pivot/c-hub front ends. I do own examples of each. I see the VS2 has pivots, IIRC, other versions of Hobao have c-hub. I’veseen companies go back and forth on this. I have an older (2007) Xray XB8 with c-hub, the new ones have pivot ball. IDK, but the Xray is big bucks, I bought used though. It’s unbelievable in terms of quality and durability IMO.
I see the VS2 at $620US for the rtr, probably the best bang for the buck I feel.

well, yes.
i have TT2.0 (pivoted) and after it i bought SSTE (c-hub)
and i immediately fell the difference in steering behaviour. don't have enough of experience and English knowledge to explain, but i feel it.
other side - is me engineering brain. i just don't like it's design in terms of engineering as i can see tooo much of a freedom for movements around a balls compare to no2 axis. (imo)

regarding X-ray, Tekno, Migen etc. dont get me wrong, i bought my first rig just 2 month's ago...we are really novices and just learning. i don't want to ruin professional stuff. and it's too pricy for me at the moment

Fair enough, if you don’t want pivot ball suspension I won’t argue. Trying to compare the 1/10 TT to the 1/8 SSTE may not give accurate analysis though. Both are truggies, but so many potential variables.

I hear that! If I had paid full price for my Xray, I would have never known how durable it is cuz I wouldn’t have ran it like I didn’t care. But, I only paid $350 for it with a box of spares new in packages. So I did what a redneck does and beat the tar out of it!🤣 Guess what? Aside from replacing bearings and worn suspension arms (at the pivots), the darned thing just keeps on going! It’s truly amazing. I have multiple Tekno, Traxxas, Armma’s, and while I agree Tekno is a step above the others it isn’t as good as the Xray. Are new Xray’s as good? I have no idea, but that 2007 at almost 20 years old is just amazing.

IDK about the Losi, if it’s genuine TLR, then it’s definitely good, if it’s just a Losi, I’d pass. Losi is not the same as TLR I don’t think.
Losi was far superior to “TLR”… “TLR” was after Horizon took over.

TLR” was after Horizon took over.
And then ruined it... For the most part... But they're slowly coming back together.

But back to the normal chat, The new RTR Losi XE/XTE are pretty much a RTR TLR kit but more plastic-y. The TLR upgrades can be used on the RTR Losi's. If you're just racing for fun, great way to go. Or Typhon 6s BLX or TLR Tuned Typhon. Racing competitively, id go Tekno. They're beasts.

I'm currently building up a Typhon 6s BLX from parts, to run on 4s only at the local track just for fun, practice, test n tune ect. Not racing 1/8 or don't plan to yet as the nearest 1/8 track that races near me is 2 hrs north west and I can't be doing that like every other weekend. So yea.

Regarding one of your first messages about not wanting to ruin professional stuff, I sort of agree with that but race grade kits like the Tekno you won't break for sure so that's why I said it's worth it to spend the money to have a durable truck or buggy. So you won't have issues/frustration down the road.

Might as well keep things in the Hobao family... congratulations on your Hyper VSe order! ;)

Seriously though, I don't think there any horrible eBuggy kits out there. You are the one who has decided what features you want while juggling your budget.

yeah, you guys are right. the one RTR i was looking for is Losi - not TLR....

Seems like none of you are up to suggest Hobao (except mr. Rusty)
is it due to they are as far from "solo racing" experience or it's because of 90% of other buggies on a track will be...more professional like Tekno?
.. congratulations on your Hyper VSe order! ;)
no, not ordered yet. have to decide if i will for hard racing, or just fun

Losi after HH hasn’t impressed me. I thought TLR was the race spec stuff after the buyout? My apologies if I spun it backwards.
It was. What I’m saying is that ALL the Losi, Team Losi, TLR, etc AFTER the merger is FAR inferior to before Horizon got involved. They’ve been exceptionally bad (by comparison) IMO to what they were previous to that. They’ve really began to go downhill around 2006, immediately after the OG Losi 8ight buggy, and truggy were released. Those two were very good platforms, and exceptionally innovative. The vast majority (even Kyosho) of manufacturers in 1/8 race stuff learned/applied from those two vehicles.

no. no nitro...
i don't have space for this. including space to run.
mb if i'll move to US...but here i have 1B-1B tiny house and no garage
I understood the thread title lol.. I was just trying to convey that a top tier race grade kit can come in quite a bit lower price-wise to what you mentioned prior.. So when they release their e-buggy, it won’t be a great deal more than the nitro chassis.

I do respect the performance of nitro, especially run times, but I got old. Not sure how that happened? Used to be all about it, then, I wasn’t. Thankfully the lipo batteries put up impressive performance and make for happy neighbors. 🤣

Yeah, if he scores a nice race kit for a deal, then builds it out with budget components, it can be very satisfying. That’s my recipe. That Xray I’m so fond of is running a Hitec servo(came with), a freaking Redcat branded HW SC8 esc and Hobbyking motor, talk about cheap fun, crazy good like Pop Tarts!🤣

Screw my neighbors. 😘🤷🏻‍♂️🤣

Not a thing wrong with a Hitec.. I ran them for years without issue. We have gotten SUPER spoiled with today’s offerings imo-and I’m on that train too for sure. The highest toque servo available 20yrs ago was in the 170ish oz/in range, and never gave me (or anyone else) a problem. Hitec’s warranty was also unmatched for literally DECADES. Run what makes ya happy, and keeps your stuff in the dirt! 🤘🍻
