My retired racing greyhound is an absolute terror and needs to something to chase. I am hoping to stay close to $200. The greyhound is good for 75 km/h in a straight line, but I figure if the RC vehicle can do close to 50 km/h I can keep him off it with its greater maneuverability. My plan is to attach a fluffy tail that will detach if he should catch it. The surface will be a grass football field. I am a total noob and want ease of use and durability. (Probably asking too much at my budget.)

I have happened upon the Laegendary Sonic RC Truck. Any good? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07WDCHS4...dafb7d273f2c4&language=en_US&ref_=as_li_ss_tl

Other suggestions would be appreciated.

Tks.

IMHO, You can't get a reliable, decent quality kit thats ready to run for $200. The closest thing that I would recommend that is reliable and has a ton of after market parts support, and comes as close to the $200 price point as I can get is probably a Traxxas Stampede. It will be good in grass too. Theres a 2WD and a 4WD version. The 2WD version is $300 and the 4WD version is $380. Heres some links to the 2 kits. Personally Id say go for the 4WD version but the 2WD version is fine too.

Links:
2WD version: $300

The vehicle you linked is a 1/16 scale vehicle, so it may get stuck in taller grass. A 1/10 scale monster truck or stadium truck is ideal for your application (monster truck has more clearance, stadium truck more maneuverable with slightly less ground clearance).

The links that @Greywolf74 posted are the brushless versions of Traxxas's monster truck (more expensive, but faster roughly 60 mph max. The brushed versions are roughly $100 cheaper, but the motor overheats and wears out rather easily, and tops out at 30 mph max. Traxxas also makes the Rustler in both 2wd and 4x4 versions (stadium truck).

If you think Traxxas vehicles are a bit out of your budget range, take a look at Arrma.

Arrma Granite Voltage 2wd brushed monster truck ($99) 20mph top speed: https://www.amazon.com/ARRMA-RC-Mon...9Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU=

Arrma Granite 4x4 Mega brushed monster truck ($230) 30mph top speed (cannot find it on amazon): https://www.amainhobbies.com/arrma-...a-rtr-monster-truck-blue-ara4202v3t1/p1250103

Arrma Granite 4x4 BLX brushless monster truck ($320) 50mph top speed: https://www.amazon.com/ARRMA-Brushl...9Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU=

Arrma Big Rock CC BLX brushless monster truck ($320) (similar to Granite 4x4, except longer and wider): https://www.amazon.com/ARRMA-Brushl...keywords=arrma+big+rock&qid=1619806169&sr=8-2

Arrma Vorteks 4x4 BLX brushless stadium truck ($380) 60mph top speed (cannot find it in stock on amazon either): https://www.amainhobbies.com/arrma-...shless-stadium-truck-red-ara4305v3t1/p1308685

Of all these, I would most likely get the Big Rock CC, since it is pretty fast, and is the largest (wider and longer), so it's more stable on rougher terrain. You do need to get a battery and charger separately though. 3s (11.1V) batteries make the car go faster, but 2s (7.4V) batteries are cheaper.

Yes a 1/16 scale is too small you want 1/10 or 1/8 scale and I also agree that the Rustler VXL 4x4 would be a good option as well. make sure its the VXL version though. Thats what Traxxas names their brushless kits. The main reason I didnt mention it earlier is because its a little more expensive than the 4WD Stampede. The Rustler is a little more stable turning cuz it has a little bit lower center of gravity but the stampede is gonna be a bit better on ground clearance so probably easier to drive in grass. Not that the Rustler 4x4 wouldnt be able to handle a football field tho np.

If you simply can't afford the Traxxas kits then ARRMA is ok I suppose I'm just not a real big fan personally. Not trying to attack Turbos suggestions I would probably consider them if your budget is really tight. Just my .02 worth.

A greyhound will catch those cheapies ,cheapies dont have good parts support!...:hehe:
Agreed whatever you get make sure its brushless.

Something wide and low will likely be your best option due to your purpose for needing it.

I'd suggest a traxxas 4x4 slash or arrma senton. They are wide/low and have narrow tires so they are more prone to slide vs flipping when turning. They will still flip, but are more forgiving. They can also run ok through mowed grass.

The senton will be the cheaper of the two:
Senton brushed $229: https://www.michaelsrchobbies.com/ara4203v3t2-blue-white-senton-4x4-v3-mega-550-brus.html
Senton brushless $319: https://www.michaelsrchobbies.com/ara4303v3t1-blue-senton-4x4-3s-blx-brushless-110th.html

Slash brushed $299: https://www.michaelsrchobbies.com/tra68054-1-orange-slash-110-4x4-rtr-4wd-brushed-sh.html
Slash brushless $399: https://www.michaelsrchobbies.com/tra68086-4-visn-blue-slash-vxl-110-4wd-brushless-s.html

There is also a 2wd slash that's cheaper, but I wouldn't recommend it as it won't be nearly as nimble for out maneuvering your dog.

I don't know the speeds of the brushed versions, but I know the brushless ones are quick, 35mph+ with minimal effort running 3S lipo's.

Heres a short video of a brushed edition rustler 4x4. Its a little on the slow side and on the day i shot this video the rc was in training mode i think cause it seemed slower than usual. A mini revo would probably be a better choice, faster, even through some light grass and less expensive too...

Fun video and great way to exercise the dog. Thanks for sharing.
What bridge is that in the back ground?
