Getting back in RC trucks, what's the toughest truck?

A few years ago, I was really into nitro RC trucks. I was doing off-road every weekend.

Back then, I used to own an HPI Nitro MT. Unfortunately, that truck was slightly flimsy on the stock form.

I’ve had to upgrade the engine, shocks, diffs, dogbones, yada yada, etc and the entire frame (bottom/top plates and both shock tower plates) to finally get something tougher capable of withstanding some real air/abuse. Even after all theses upgrades, breaks were frequent.

I’ve recently tried to fix it back but haven’t been able to find any replacement pieces, everything was discontinued.

So I’m currently looking to buy a new truck. However, before buying one (something like the savage), I’d like to start off with a stock tough truck instead upgrading the truck into oblivion. What would you recommend me?

If it doesn’t exist, which one would have the best aftermarket support to upgrade it into a tough truck?

I'd like to add that I'm looking more into a Monster Truck type than a Stadium Truck. Size wise, I'd prefer it to be around the savage/nmt size, running on nitro. I'm not really interested by gaz trucks...

I'd also like to add that I did search , however, most thread are beginner asking for a new truck to play with. I'd like to specify that I need a tough truck for an experienced drivers. I do know that break are bound to occur/must occur. But still, I believe this question is still a valid one.

As far as a "Monster Truck", they dont get much tougher than a stock Savage.. If you feel the need to upgrade later on, the Savage has probably the largest aftermarket support at the moment.. You really can't go wrong.

As far as a basher/racer, you might want to look into the Revo..

As for the savage, I'm not too convinced.. Seems pretty much like my old NMT... Maybe I could give him a chance but hah :/

I have had 4 in my experience and they are just as IMBROKEN says. Your first post sounds like you may want a truggy.

Nothing could be further from the truth! If you main concern is toughness the Savage is your truck!

I have to agree, if you want a Mt thats is tuff in stock form savage. it took a lot to break anything on this truck. Unless you where wanting a pan style MT.

Savage and Revo get my vote. They are both really tough trucks with a large following of aftermarket parts. Do a search on these two.

I'd also do a search on the LST2, out of the box it comes with a nice radio and a potent engine. The ones I hae seen in person were pretty tough but part availability might not be as good as the Savage or Revo. Check and see what your LHS carries for parts and go from there.

The savage and NMT are nothing alike. I had a NMT and I still own a savage. (key word in that sentence, "had")

The savage is an 1/8 scale truck. It has a BB engine, 4wd, two speed internal trans (or 3-speed if you get an upgrade) with slipper, TVP chassis and long throw suspension. The only upgrades I'd suggest out of the box (depending on if you get the savage-x or an old 21 savage) are 4 gear diff mod, lunsford turnbuckles and the cam type servo saver. Just those things will keep you running strong for quite a few beatings.

The NMT was a 4wd, single speed, no slipper, pan chassis, small block 1/10 scale stadium truck. The only similarities between it and a savage are 4wd and HPI logo on the side.

Revo gets my vote ...you will need to harden it a bit. But they are an inovative design and a proven performer.

Note: I have no expreience with the Savage....so this is completly biased reccomendation.

Just go buy a REVO..!!!!!

The savage and revo are a couple top choices. Although, the Tamiya TNX is supposed to be a well built rig. I have found that it's hard to find Tamiya parts though, and upgrades. They came out with a new BB version to compete with the other big dogs (savage, lst, revo 3.3, t-maxx 3.3). TNX BB

The LST 2 and MGT are a couple others that are good with a few upgrades.

It kind of depends on if you like a lot of power or a lot of handling for a track. Although, the LST 2 is a good combination of both. But LST's aren't cheap.
