I have been working on this idea for a while. I want a tow truck. To go along with the Darkhorse Garage.
I like scale but I am really into crawling. So I want to build a tow truck then can not only climb rocks but can survive a fall from five feet down a rock face. Not an easy thing.

But I think I got it figured out. And to make it better I’m going to build two.
I really really like my G Speed Power Wagon with the 3D printed bed.
It has a 2.0 low trans from Team Garage Hack and nice ar44 metal axles. It climbs really well and I like it. So I decided to build another one with six wheel drive and make them both tow trucks .
The whole tow rig will be self contained and held to the bed with nylon bolts. If it tumbles down a cliff. It will just snap off the bolts. And I can also just remove it when I want to craw without it.

The orange photo is my current build. The orange and white 6x6 is my inspiration. But I’m going to go a bit further toward performance. And I have a great idea for the boom.

I found a new out of the box Trx6 for portals. That’s the first thing I need. Then I need to sell the perfect white body. Still has the plastic protection. Body and chassis minus running gear $150.00 plus shipping. I won’t have it till the 18 th of anyone is interested.

That will be an awesome rig!

The tow rig I want to use will have reefs winches with internal spools. The front winch will be mounted parallel to the steering servo. The rear will have steel line and I’m mounting the servo in the winch boom.

This is the stuff that pushed me over the edge of thinking about it to building.
I think these brackets are for holding an LED light bar.
I am going to mount the servo inside the back of the bracket. Slot the top and install the pulley. Then bolt the whole thing down with break away bolts.
Need to drill a hole and slit affair to hold a nylon cable guide.

That is going to work out great!

First pile of parts is on the bench.
This is a long project and parts will come in bits and pieces till I have everything sorted out.

Thanks the the support.
I am really looking forward to this build. Going to be a monster.
thinking about a 3500 puller pro or revolver. And 4S.

I am putting together the drivetrain. This is a Team Garage Hack Creeper -T transmission with a forward motor mount. The motor mount is mirrored so the motor sits very low and to the right allowing the forward drive shaft to go on the left side streight toward the offset front pumpkin.
The Creeper -T transmission is super light and provides the front axle with 30% overdrive.

Another pile of parts today. This is the crazy carbon fiber frame and 3D printed 6x6 bed. Plus the servo mounts. Pan hard mounts sliders and frame braces.

I have things sorta mocked up to get the primary driveshaft cut to length.
I will be using TRX6 portals and wild bore driveshafts. So getting the used TRX6 is next.

OK back by popular demand and after some new contract negotiations. I met with their lawyers and since they have become an internet sensation I doubled their pay.
Of corse their muppet lawyer did not notice that 2x0 is 0. But we won’t mention that.

More parts

Although these are technically not for this. I pulled the parts from another rig. Once I get things together. I’ll decide what motor ESC and stuff I like and what works.

HH 3500 on 3 S and Mamba x and a Spectrum receiver. I might try a 2800kv on 4 S after it’s tuned a little.
For servos I have a Reefs RC triple 4 winch servo and a triple 4 on the steering. For now.
i think this is going to be OK.
