FMS 1/10 High Roller

I couldn't help myself... I have a mess of 2s LiPo's and I've been looking for a budget 1/10 monster truck to put those batteries to use. I also have a soft spot for low dollar RC's. Then I saw the high roller... $169 shipped to my door WITH a 2s LiPo. Chassis is super interesting, officially licensed, uses a flysky ESC/Reciever combo that's compatible with ANT protocol so I could bind my FS-G7P right up to it. Not that it matters since I'll be throwing a brushless setup in it anyways, but it's nice that the option is there. Although, I will definitely test the brushed setup for a little bit before throwing a brushless motor/esc in it. Not a whole lot of info I've found on here and I've purposely avoided watching any videos on it as I want to form my own opinion on it, given the price. I also don't mind being the guinea pig.

I'll update this thread once it comes in with lots of pictures and my first impressions. By the time it gets here, there should be some grass and dirt peeking through the snow which will allow me to really put this thing through its paces. What are you're thoughts?

That'll be fun! I've been real happy with my 1/18 FMS Land cruiser. There's a few little quirks with it, like why they used two Phillips screwdriver to secure the front and then alley keys for the back is beyond me. Thankfully Injora has some magnetic mounts that will bypass that all together. The transmitter is nice, but I don't like that I can't stand it up, the base is too small. Otherwise, it's a super fun 2 speed rig! You'll love the high roller

This will be my first FMS product. They have a pretty good reputation with their crawlers and planes, so I don't think this will be any different. If they can deliver a solid product, this finally gives the Arrma Gorgon some competition... cheaper competition at that!

Their scale-ness of their crawlers is impressive, I love the detail in the land cruiser and the 1/10 is even better. I also have an FMS EDF jet, but I've never flown an RC plane and I know the EDF is fast! So its decorative for now

How did I miss this thread? Pretty cool man. I will be watching this one. I love watching newish RC companies expand and branch out. They started out making planes, then crawlers, now this. I only have their (I will forever call it this) "Max" Smasher (screw you Traxxas), and it is a pretty awesome RC for 24th scale.

i was just checking this out, there's also a "First Blood" body. its interesting, it's cheap, but is it good? i hate to say it, but the benchmark is the stampede. is it as good or better performance and durability wise?

I don't know if I would compare it to the Stampede. The Stampede is a rather interesting RC to drive, and a blast for some strange reason, unlike any other that I have driven. But I of course haven't driven this FMS. But I just can't image this drives much like a Stampede, based on how much of a unicorn the Stampede is.

that's because the stampede is just a stadium truck with a lift kit. high CG and terrible suspension geometry. when you put decent power in one, things get ...interesting...
so maybe this can be a stampede that doesn't suck?

The Stampede does just fine in stock form for it's intended purpose. It's definitely not a race car. But it's a great little basher from the limited amount of time we have driven ours. Any time you mod an RC, especially just throwing more power at it, it's going to screw things up. That's the fun of RC. Making them do what you want. I'm not a big fan of Traxxas, but we love our Stampede for what it is. But I don't think I'd ever want to mod it much, other than to convert it to brushless and set it up to add just a touch more power. It does great on 8 cell NiMh packs at 9.6v. But on 2s LiPo, it leaves just a little to be desired.

I think it will be more comparable in handling to the Gorgon and given the price, I think that’s their main competition.

Mid motor and it doesn’t look like the HCG chassis is nearly as high up as the stampede’s chassis. I suspect it will handle much better than the stampede. Durability wise… I doubt it will be as good. The stampede (pricing aside) may be antiquated, sloppy and say what you want about Traxxas… but, it’s very durable aside from the caster blocks. Most issues with that platform stem from inexperience (it’s someone’s first RC) or they’re asking for way more than what a 1/10 2wd rig can reasonably deliver regardless of who’s name came on the box.

Slash 2wd rear arms or Nitro Rustler rear arms add rear toe. Slash arms have more mounting holes for the shocks though. It was one of the first things I did to my rustler and it's a night and day improvement. Also allows you to run equal offset wheels all the way around without having to buy RPM wide arms up front since the slash rear arms are shorter than the stampede/rustler arms.

The 0 degrees of toe and multiple offset wheels is one of thing that makes me see red since traxxas already has ALL THE PARTS TO FIX IT. It wouldn't cost them anything to change it.

idk about that stampede durability. i once watched a guy snap one in half on a BMX jump that wasn't that big. i remember the dropout skid plate things being problematic.
but they, they were cheap trucks with slightly cheaper parts than everything else back in the day.

stampede and shorter rear arms don't sound like a good combo (even if the truck is the same overall width as stock). the truck needs a wider stance cause lets face it, its flips fairly easily do to the high CG.

I mean URC has videos from 10 years ago of him driving that platform full speed into walls at an angle with little to no breakages. Granted they were brushed XL-5 models, but 20+mph into a wall and only breaking a caster block is hard to ignore as "not durable."

and i just remembered Losi already had a 2wd monster truck called "high roller" it was not well received or liked and didn't last long they based the Strike short course truck off it as well (worst short course truck ever!)
