I did it, finally opened up all that Spaztix paint I purchased a few months ago. All I can say, is I'm glad I'm starting on this 1:24 Lexan body. The gunmetal color for the grille went on as expected. This is the first time I've used an iridescent paint with the real/blue. I knew it would go on translucent, but I guess I may have needed more coats before the white backing. I thought the white backing would bring it out more, but I was fooled. In the right lighting it looks pretty good, but other lighting makes it look incomplete, patchy. Luckily, I'm going for a stormy look on this thing (per my daughter wanting a thunderstorm on it). So I'm hoping when it's done it'll come together. Trust the process, as they say. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I could be buying some other Lexan to practice with this paint more.

It will look awesome when you cut it out, which by the way, you are supposed to do before paint 😉

But yeah, it definitely looks like you nailed the storm look. You're just not seeing it yet.

If you trim it and sand the edge, you might end up with a clear looking edge, or scuff your paintjob. Lets see it trimmed!

I was debating on trimming before. Should have done that. Luckily I just started with the details first so I think I'll be okay trimming it now for the full coating. I will do that next before I get further into painting 😁

I think it looks pretty stormy!
Maybe some lightning bolt stickers to finish it off but its got a cool grey/blue thing happening under the white... stormy cloudy sky! 😎
I actually cut in lightning bolts going down the sides, plan is to peel that masking away and hit it with fluorescent yellow and back with white (I think) 😬🤞🏻.

Silver backing also works really well with these kinds of paints. And you'll get a darker overall finish.
Thanks for the tip! I'm going to paint a fluorescent pink likely next. So I thought to back it with black in hopes it's be bright, but a deeper color. I'm going to test it on some other clear plastic I have first. I'll try silver too!

Put the old links back on the SCX24 for the F250 body. Made some marks on the top, so I know where to secure it once it's all painted. Next, I think I'll continue with darker colors first, so I'll do the bumpers. I did not realize how satisfying and exciting it is to have a tiny pickup truck 😂

Also Murphy's law worked with buying new pinstriping tape, cuz I found my old roll this morning 🤣. My Lexus body will be stored until kiddo can drive better, yes I'm overly protective of my stellar paint job on it.

Was it just where you left it? 🙄
In the last place you looked I bet! 🤣

Made good progress! Bumpers front and rear are silver, with black backer. I ended up backing the sides in black too. Then some masking of the bed. Used my 1/8" pinstripe tape, the idea is the pink to show through to give it the look of slats in the truck bed.

I actually did the blue/teal translucent again, then silver and black backer. Totally overkill on the backing but this is an experiment with Spaztix now. Tomorrow will be hot pink all around plus the lightning bolts and white backer and it'll be done!

Ignore my markers on the top. I was trying to determine where to place my Velcro.

That is looking great, I bet some pink will look really nice. You are killin’ it
When I first saw this thread I forgot about my first experience with the spaz. I had good prep and the first color with a backed layer seemed to go on fine. I am pretty sure I laid it on too fast following that or one of the layers was too thick, it started to crack, split and bleed through when I put on secondary colors.
I had used tamiya paints before that. Now I airbrush.

Yea. I've been playing with the regulator on my airbrush to find the sweet spot for the Spaztix. I may have layered a little thick on the sides, but I think I'll be okay with this little crawler, since it has hardly any speed. At least the kiddo can "bash" this around rather than potentially ruin my paint job on the Lexus body 😄.

A finished paint project! One down...3 to go.
I call it Painfully Pink, it is so bright my phone honestly doesn't now how to process the color. It's burn your retinas bright 😂. Indoors the pink comes through a little better.

I have the front of the body secure, waiting for a part to secure the truck bed. Then it's good to go!

Lessons learned from my first Spaztix with the airbrush:
- colors are really nice
- I need more practice with the translucent
- you have to be ultra meticulous about your lines when cutting. I think next time I'll use more paint masking to help with that. This definitely is a little rough, but it's totally fine for the kiddo. I used the decals to help cover some sloppy work I did.
- painting tiny trucks is challenging! Thank goodness all my other bodies are 1/10. That should be easier.

Biggest win, the kiddo loves her tiny pink thunderstorm truck 🩷

It came out better than I saw it in my mind. This looks AWESOME!!! I like how bright it is!!! 😍
Haha thank you! I'm so glad. In hindsight I still wonder if I should have done the lightning yellow, but it is the pink thunderstorm she wanted so 😊
