So in the last few months I've really been engrossing myself into the world of Formula 1 and I'm really starting to enjoy it. My son is growing more fond of his slot car set and he's gotten rather good at getting around without running the car off the track (he is only 3). So anyways, I got the itch to design an F1 inspired slot car track on the SCX website. Whataya guys think? It's relatively large at approximately 14' x 6'. that many pieces also allows for MANY other possibilities but this was the first thing I came up with after a couple fixes here and there.

You know they DO have an off-road set now. The cars can actually get some airtime. Pretty nifty if you ask me.

they do? my son saw the nascar set at the LHS the other day and really fell in love with it. he wanted me to get it for him... but now knowing i can get a dirt version...i might buy it tomorrow.

not really what i was expecting but still pretty cool.

so how easy is it to tune these cars? i remember having a FX slot car track with i was younger and we didnt really upgrade the cars. just had to replace them as they broke/died...

you're referring to regular touring cars? Only so much really... I think the key is to keep everything as smooth running as possibly. Any extra resistance will drag your speed down. You can adjust the magnet of the car to add or subtract it's adherance to the line. The digital system allow you to adjust the braking affect when off throttle I think. We just have the standard system though. Chase (my son) just goes round and round and I play chaser :)

Good design.

Glad to hear your enjoying Formula One. Wait until next season starts. With the majority of the driver aids and aerodynamic additions banned for next year it should make the racing much more about driver skill, less about engine power, and much more exciting as a result.

Next year's Formula One championship should be more like the good old days of wheel-to-wheel racing - not like the last few years of no-overtaking "racing" (if you could call it that).

The only time anything has happened over the last 5-6 years or so in F1 has been because of the weather.

Can't wait for the changes to take place!

That offroad set is killer. You notice how the electrical contacts have a little truck system that allows it to maintain contact? Sheer genius there.

Woo Hoo! Order in! This will be Christmas gifts to myself and my son and myself. All of the track pieces plus the Massa and Hamilton cars. Shaweet! Can't wait!

i have a cops and robbers car set you can jump in air and land on the other side the track is ok needs to have more straight aways have about 400ft of track and about 40 slot cars a have a general lee car and a police car with lights and sirens

400 ft. of track! My god! That's crazy! I don't really know how many feet of track I just bought but altogether I purchased about 80 pieces. Aside from the layout above I can come with endless other designs with all those track parts.

Name that racetrack

Since I needed a few odds and ends from Tower I decided to go ahead and put in an order for a couple cars. Chase has a thing for yellow cars so I got the Kenseth #17 Dewalt car as well as the Montoya #42 Havoline car (Jamie's old ride). So where there be stock cars there shall be oval tracks... How well do you know your ovals? Be careful, a couple of them are not quite so obvious. Not necessarily to scale but you get the idea.

Serious design flaw, on those tracks. They only turn one direction. The little men in the cars need to stop and ask for directions. They're obviously lost. :p:

I wish I had the space for 1/32nd. I'm running HO in 60"x40". Pretty well limits me to pancake motors, at reduced voltage.

you need to find a car with 4 magnents on it i have one and i can take turns pretty dang fast

I don't find the magnetic missiles to be nearly as much fun to drive. Sadly, the pancake car is sidelined, untill I can order parts for it. It sucks being an hour away from any hobby shops.

My only other car is an SG+, which is very much a missile. It's just a blur, going around the track.

Here it is! Unfortunately it took me all of 3 minutes to break the Ferrari F1 car when I was running it on the RIR layout. Oh well, replacement parts are ordered. Sorry for the crappy pic, my computer is still down and I'm stuck with my phone. Fortunately I can upload to photobucket directly from my phone. I'm not sure if I can upload vid from my phone but I'm gonna give it a shot in a little while.
