It was. He had a bad week at work so was a perfect recharge for him. He was grateful to get away.

Had another nice evening with my brother out at a neighborhood grade school. Snow was pushed off of the parking lot as well as the surrounding baseball fields. He ran his Redcat Scout and after running my Defender with the Fusion motor for a few minutes and watching the short video on the bottom of page one of this thread has decided to go that route. He ordered it lastnight after we got home from crawling. I don't think he'll be disappointed. 😁

Ok gentlemen, another couple newbie questions. I've been running the stock Defender wheels and tires, looking at replacing both wheels and tires. Since my Defender is gray would like to get some black aluminum or metal beadlocks. Suggestions on wheels?
Have been looking at the Hyrax tires and they look like a great tire. Is there anything out there that is comparable to that tire as far as rubber compound and tread or should I just go for the Hrax tires and save the time of searching all over. Thanks in advance. FF

Any proline G8 are good , jcconcepts too , pitbulls are goos but expensive , louise & duratrax , goods and cheaper ... rc4wd in my opinion too soft sides and they puncture easily

Went to Wyoming for some fireworks business on Friday, one of our suppliers does an annual shoot showcasing new product. I discovered last year one of the family members of the company has a couple of crawlers so took mine along just incase. He did bring one out to the warehouse when he came out. We had about an hour of free time before they served a great spread of home made Mexican cuisine. Some of the best I've ever had, unbelievable amount of work for the 80 people that showed up to watch the display.
The area around the warehouse is a crawling mecca, rocks everywhere, spines and ridges poking through the sand soil everywhere. He(Trey) said he has barely scratched the surface of what is there. Will definitely be going back some time this summer or fall. Definitely discovered the short comings of my Defender, although did better than I thought. Really having me leaning towards another crawler, wife is actually a bit interested, would be a blast if she would join in. We'll see, doing some research on what might be a good one for her. Definitely will be installing a Fusion 2300kv system and a servo upgrade whatever we may possibly get. Also stopped and picked up a set of the Proline Hyrax tires. Searching for some beadlocks that will look decent with the Defender. Here's some pics of our time.

I've had very good luck with Injora Wheels
+1

Those stock Canyon Trail tires are actually very good. So much so, that I unglued them from the plastic wheels and mounted them onto metal wheels.

I thought about that, May still do it. I did pick up a set of proline Hyrrax G8's for it. They pick up two sets of beadlocks so that I can switch those out for winter crawling. Friend of mine has a friend who does 3D printing and is making tire inserts. I'm going to get a set of those for inside the high racks tires there a bit spending but they work really really well.

SL3drc.com link to the inserts.

I stopped and picked up my new tire "Squid'inserts" for my Proline Hyrax G8's. A friend of mine has a friend who is 3D printing these things and they are really starting to to take off. He is shipping them all over the United States as well as several different countries. He just shipped an order to Australia last week. Looking forward to getting them on my Defender. I did order a set of Injora Beadlocks that are on the way. Will see how this combination works out, I think the wheels will be a help for some added weight down low. A much needed benefit for the top heavy body of my crawler. I love this thing but am definitely seeing the limitations of this model, I do like the realism of how the body rolls and leans. Makes it extremely challenging to run with the other guys. My buddy Patrick is running the same tires and inserts in his Power Wagon. That thing is unbelievable, not too many places that thing can't go. Am also looking forward to getting my new RC4WD 1/10 Warn 8274 winch installed. Probably going to need to replace my front bumper with a metal one, I don't think the plastic one will survive the load. Patrick has one on his Power Wagon it seems to be a beast. Will keep the progress posted.

Well got my new beadlocks tonight, fed ex seems to deliver at all times now. Got the new proline Hyrax tires mounted and installed on the Defender, think they look pretty cool can't wait to try it out. Added an additional 12.2 ounces to my truck weighing in at 163.2 oz. 10.2 lbs, still have to add the winch and bumper yet. Getting heavy.

Was able to get outside for a few minutes tonight just to do a small (very) test of the tires on some rocks around the house, they didn't disappoint. Crawled right up an area that the factory tires struggled with. Looking forward to getting out on some real terrain.
Finally some green in our area.

Well.....bought my wife a truck she doesn't know it yet as I want to upgrade it before I give it to her. Trx4 sport with track kit, put a battery in it lastnight because I wanted to see what the light kit looked like. Took it for a  VERY short drive, it sucks. Well in comparison to how my Defender drives with the Fusion motor. That's why I already have all the mods coming for it. It will be great when I get the motor, servo, wheels, inserts, and tires for it. Got rock lights coming as well. I'm sure it will easily outperform the Defender, just won't look as cool.😁

Sure....it's for  her (wink, wink)

🙂
If you guys don't hear from me for a while you'll know she wasn't very receptive of her gift and I'm recovering in the hospital.
Seriously though, if she's going to come out with me I want something that's going to work right for her. And if what she's driving actually performs better than what I have she might have more fun.🤷‍♂️
