I have been using the supplied (with tires) foam inserts, including rtr rigs. I am now cutting about 1/4" from the outer surface. Seems to be working for me. Not using dual stage foams. I have used them but thinking I am getting good results with leaving a small "air gap" in the tire/foam. Tires flex well for traction and have good stiff sidewalls. Anyone else modding their own tire foams?

Modding the foams back in the early days was a huge thing, as the big companies didn't exist back then. These days however, there's so many options that it's almost overwhelming. On a RTR rig, you mostly have nothing to lose, so why not. I'm currently running silicone inserts and vented tires personally. If you're never in water, then venting the tires will likely help as much as trimming the foams.
