i want to replace my esc because i am apparently too hard on it and burn them out sooooo my stampede 4x4 with the vxl3s pooped out on me and i was wondering is there a better esc to put on there and still be compatable with the rest of the stock pieces thanks ahead of time

Castle Creations stuff will work good.

I agree with SNG. I've had really good luck with Castle Creations stuff in all of my 1/18 scale and have a Mamba Monster waiting to be installed in my Revo. I love how they can be programmed with your computer.

I agree Castle is pretty decent Id probably grab something like this http://www.ebay.com/itm/Castle-Crea...Control_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3cc33d569b

I modded mine though and mounted a fan on top of it using a BEC. I like to keep my ESCs as cool as possible.

If your looking for something a little more budget friendly I would recommend this
http://www.hobbypartz.com/07e-c-xerun-80a-sd.html
but I would also probably get one of these to go with it.
Especially since they are so cheap right now on sale

Never used a Traxxas ESC but I have used Hobbywings and Castle Creation ESCs I own several different castle ESCs in fact and one Hobbywing. Havent had any problems yet.

a, i beating on it too hard or what? granted i do donuts and race it off jumps and drift a bit through the dirt along with some more donuts and so forth..... is that at all bad??

I've not actually had any trouble with the traxxas vxl setups except for thermal shutdown but once geared right it took care of that.

I have never had a traxxas esc fail me
and i have 8
4 vxl-3s
1 vxl-3m
2 xl5
1 xl10

Too tight of a gear mesh and/or over gearing are common ways to ruin an esc.

Never had issues with traxxas electronics either, but I have melted two castle esc's.

Agree with mud slinger, NEVER had a problem with traxxas. But I smoked a castle sidewinder sct running in good conditions.

This all sounds normal to me as well. I agree with others here. It is most likely caused by improper gearing. What size batteries are you running in it? Heat is the enemy for ESC's. Also are you keeping the ESC clean? The reason I ask is that I fried a $180 Novak GTB because I got some grit around the area where the wires were soldered into the ESC and it shorted out and melted the ESC. I have had several Traxxas vehicles and never had an issue with the stock ESC. I even got the older XL5 esc completely submerged in water by accident and after drying it out it still went on to work for many more years.

just some info
i am pretty sure this is correct

hpi savage xs flux says use a 25c minimum battery
i have never seen that on others

maybe to low of a c rating or to high of a c rating maybe is the reason
batteries now go from 20c to 90c that i have seen
to many c's means more amps
a 40c battery 5000mah = 200amps
so if you use a 60c 5000mah now you have 300 amps
so if you buy a 90c 5000mah now you have 450 amps
so check the c rating and the mah and do the math
