Electrics SUCK!!!

I had electric when I was a kid. Now that I'm older and have spent many an hour wrenching on cars, lawnmowers and now RC, I have to say I enjoy the nitro RC's more.

There's something to be said about having an engine that is running on methanal and nitro wrapping out to 40,000RPMS and not exploding.

I won't run electric probably ever, unless I by a losi mini-t to chase the cats around the house with.

By the way, did anyone notice the prices for those lypoly batteries and chargers???!!! I'll be sticking to nitro.
 
i am really seriously thinking about picking me up brushless e-maxx. i no a guy that is selling one for a reasonable price and i was thinkin instead of doing thte JT hyrid and RB Rody C5 upgrade on my supermaxx to just go and use that moneyfor that.

Just admit it, electrics are way more advanced than Nitro, they are also more preicse, faster, easier to repair, less maintenance, less dirty, less noise (good and bad), more torque, cheaper in the long run, the list goes on...

while the land speed record is held by an electric, I'm pretty sure a RTR or average r/c (under 500$) nitro will be faster than a average/RTR electric, but as I've only seen RTR electrics I'm probably lost completly as to how much speed you can get out of an electric/per dollar. i can see how electrics are better for racing as they can have ultimatly lower CG's and are much more easier to apply smooth, consistant power delivery.

i do know that now i have a savage i am thinking about converting my t-maxx to brushless after reading of the output those motors have. in all do not ask/say which is better jsut be happy we fellow r/c'ers have soo many choices and paths to take in r/c!!
 
well yah....i already have a t-maxx thats pretty close to bulletproof, and I'm thinkin about buying a e-maxx aftermakert chassis and what else i need and throw the front and rear bulkhead/suspension units on there. so more like a combining of parts to make an e-maxx.
 
probably becuase i know if i buy a brand new e-maxx i will end up throwing as much money into it as i did the t-maxx to make it bashworthy...and i dont want to go thru that agian...I'm realy trying to restrain myself from spending most of my money on r/c...even though doing that brushless deal to the maxx wont be cheap...if i were to start ground up it will end up costing me alot as will havto go thru the chassis/suspension/driveline upgrading all over agian!

What track do all these guys race at in the S.F. bay area? You are naming a bunch of SoCal dudes. Those guys can be seen as locals at Hemet from what I understand.

Mark Francis has been showing up at Capital City RC Center in Sacramento the last couple of weeks....the rest of the guys are SoCal guys. I travel a lot for my work in which I spend a lot of time in the L.A. area. I just happen to have a place in S.F. and Sacramento. You are correct they are all locals at Hemet. I was just naming a bunch of who are world class drivers which I have seen drive/race and they have no problem keeping up and passing the guys in nitro...my point is just that the driver makes a bigger difference than whether you are running nitro or electric.

I run both and I prefer electric because nitro engines are a pain in the a$$ and I say that even though I place much better in races with nitro than electric.
 
I say I enoy both worlds even if my electrics for now are just micros and Mini-T's. I plan to get a 1/10 buggy most likely, the ones I saw racing were ill, or it could have been like yuo said the drivers. I need to practice on the fineese, I am to "raw" and sloppy on 1/8 nitro off-road and I need to clean up my act so I think the ticket will bet to pratice with an electric and my buggy to get it right for tight tracks.
 
i've had so many R/C Cars it's not funny.

the first one was a red baja buggy Radio Shack one i had. in 3 years,i had black and duck tape holding the body together

the next one got which was another baja buggy that got ran over by a truck.the risks of living by a shipping company

i had a canned heat tyco R/C car and my dog got a hold of it,ripping one of the tires clean off.

i still have my Monster Beetle and BlackFoot{both broke,the monster's steering servo is broke,along with the body mounts and the BlackFoot runs,but is lopsided}

the nitro R/C i got now is great.like everyone said,it's a pain in the ass.but once it's tuned right it's great.
 
If you want to clean up your skills, the way to go is electric 12th scale.
The car goes where you put it.
You have to be a clean driver to get around one of those road courses

poop, Ill tell you all what, for whoever shows at the east coast bash in buffalo this year, I will drag race ya with my new hippy dippy TC3 and 8 turn motor on the 5th mile. Single speed of course. And we will see how fast what is. To keep things fair, I would have to say a 2.5 or .15 displacement would be the competition.

Who knows, I could get finished putting it all together and be sad sad sad. But as far as I am concerned, electric can be just as fun as Nitro, if not moreso because of less tuning headaches.

I've seen some SERIOUS speed, performance and competition get thrown up on the electric side. Nothing to throw stones at. Not by a long shot.

As with Nitro, one must invest in the vehicle, motor, batteries and ESC to get the job done. Its not cheap either to get balls in electric. The 435+ secs, 1.169 volt Gold Peak Zapped and Matched 3300 battery packs alone will sticker shock ya'

Depending on how low of a turn motor you want to run, ESC's can get up there real quick too! My SportMaxx 2 ESC was no walk in the park, but an 8 turn can is going to be the poop.

The good thing however for pricing, is the motors or cans as I hear most refer to them. Seems to me that no matter what the turns, prices are pretty relative. Swapping them out is quick and easy as well. Brush maintenance and comm maintenance are key. Also, watch those temps.

All in all, I would have to say that if setup properly, electric and nitro can be close to one in the same. One just sounds like balls while the other one creeps up on you and BLAM! You've been smoked! lol

Of course, a month of go I would have talked a lot of poop about electric since I got out and into Nitro in a DieHard way! but now I'm back in and going to be hitting the track and TRYING to compete for a change.

One of the more welcoming aspects of the electrics for me was the fact that here in Buffalo, the only INDOOR tracks are for electric only. Very important for the long winters we have.

Next up, an electric stadium truck hehehehe
 
ill put my brushless on the line with a 36 tooth pinion and epic 3300 7 cell and smoke most nitros at the take off... that thing is fast. i wasted a hpi ss with an epic 18 in it about 2 weeks ago while i was home on spring break.
