I’ve had my trx6 for a while and like it ok. The body never grew on me, and performance is only good in certain instances. It’s too heavy and tips over way too easy for me so thinking it over this is what I’m doing.

I do not have time to make a chassis, links, servo mount, etc, or want to spend the money for buying everything for a g speed build. Here’s a few things I came up with to improve performance, without chopping up your rig or braking the bank.

Change out the front/rear fender wells with sport shock hoops/towers. There’s no drilling needed, just a tiny bit of hobby knife work to clear a bolt head. Lose the huge front and rear bumpers for trx4 sport and run them up side down. Remove the heavy rear battery tray and run a small battery up front. Mod the shocks using Dixieland RC shock mod with losi mini t springs for a full droop setup. Run a cab only body or make your own to get rid of the high huge MB body. Here’s the first video...

One of the things that kept me from getting the TRX 6x6 is that I hate that Mercedes body. I feel pretty dumb that it never crossed my mind to just use a different body and make it a cab only body.

I saw a full size one last week. The rear axle didnt appear to have a drive shaft. Looks ugly but neat. I guess its the face only a mother can love.

Exocaged rc (YouTube guy) made a body and bed out of two jconcepts creep bodies that came out nice. The Axial unimog has a long bed that works but is hard to find. There’s a lot of cab only bodies out now to choose from.

It’s no doubt a nice vehicle but they would have sold a lot more if it were a 49 dodge power wagon long bed. They need to relate to the older rc crowd because we have a little more cash to throw at a nitch vehicle that most likely will be a 2nd or 3rd crawler we run now and then. Serious comp guys put their hard earned cash into crawlers which stay within the rules which idt there’s a 6x6 class.

The vehicle (full scale) itself is amazing but makes a terrible choice for an rc trail crawler. It so capable without the body. Traxxas should make a sport version of this like I’m doing above with a light weight full length body. It would be a big seller imo.

Got my towers mounted and shocks modded. I did have to make the spring keepers out of aluminum. You can make them out of a fine sharpie pen but for this model you need six...I have a detailed post about the shock keepers if anyone cares. I will dial in the shock oil later, I’m using the stock oil as a benchmark. (To figure out unknown oil viscosity put drop of it and a known oil on a piece of cardboard. Compare how the drop spreads and rolls when the cardboard is tipped...). Ran it around the yard and it’s noticeably better than it was. Still need to move electrics, mod sliders and mount the cab.

I'm not a huge fan of the body either and the price....

I would love to try one but a new one is a bit out of my budget.

They really should make a sport version like they do for the trx4. As a demonstrated above all the parts are already made they just need to put one together. One could also make there own, you just need a doner car, rails, center axle, links, rear most drive shaft, set of towers and a body.

Done for now, everything is of the shelf traxxas besides the shock mod and the body mounts. Came out very good but I need 4 more soft losi mini t springs for the rear droop. Have rubber bands doing it for now.

This foam is used for packaging where I work. Round discs of all shapes get discarded all the time. I use it all around the house and garage.
I think I have a foam fetish. I always salvage and repurpose these materials whenever I come across them.

Couple things I’ve done since the last update are new wheels/tires and placed the battery on the skid. I had a set of Hyrax knockoffs and a set of wheels so I got another set and mounted them up to make 6. (Waiting for Rupture 1.9 to be back in stock...) With the heavy side wall on these I decided to run dual stage foam without the outer ring. Also made a custom bumper and relocated the battery and receiver.
Here’s a couple videos. The first is a run I made before changing the wheels/tires and the second from today...
