I have notice on top of my piston, there is a small scratch on the top of it, can tis pose a problem, i was taking my engine head off and my screwdrive slipped, its really a dink, its not that big at all, but do i have a problem on my hand. damn this is a brand new engine and i feel so bad right now!!! :doh: :sorry:

As long as you only scratched the top and not the sides or the inside of the sleeve or poked a hole in the piston itself, you should be fine for quite some time.

I put a good gouge in the side of my piston about 5 gallons ago. I couldn't get the flywheel nut loose. I didn't know about hydrolocking the piston with ARO, all I knew was the ziptie trick where you stick the head of a ziptie in the exhaust port with the piston down to lock it. It was so tight that it was shearing off the ziptie. So, I took a small pair of pliers I have that have plastic coated handles and stuck the handle in there. Well, I got the nut loose, but it cut through the plastic of the handle and put a gouge in the side of the top of the piston... the gouge wore off eventually and I just recently got the piston/sleeve re-pinched.

Like I said, I did the gouge and used the engine for another 4 or 5 gallons getting a total of 9 gallons through the engine before I got it re-pinched.

you will be fine, just make sure that there isnt a burr in there, and if it made a metal shaving clean it out. if there is a burr, scrape it off with a piece of plastic.

Olds have you not ever heard of using a flywheel spanner ????????? hydrolocking is just about as bad for your engine as using a screw driver to hold the piston still, stretchs bends damages your conrod, and in extreme cases can break the crank, or smash the bottom out of the piston, i have never seen this but have heard of it, but have seen the damage to conrods, you can buy the spanner for about 10 bucks us and saves alot of hassle
 
I all ways use a rag and a pair of needle nose vice grips on my fly wheels.
Put the rag around the vice grips so you don't mar up the F/W
Get a good grip on it and tighen down on the nut..It will leave a few marks on the f/w but its better then stresing the con rod IMO

Mike do you have a link to the spanner wrench?? is there one made just for fly wheels? I have a set of spanners but not that small...

I know what a spanner wrench is now... but I typically just use channel locks on the flywheel. The problem the time I had a stuck nut, now that I think about it, wasn't a stuck nut, but a stuck sleeve in the crank case. I couldn't get it out.
 
I bought a Nova turbo .12 3 port from a former member here and it too looked like someone gouged the top of the piston. Diver can testify to the fact that this mill runs great and has a ton of power, bottom and top.
