A fine tuned Savage will go 40 mph. Go for the Savage. BTW, it's a hobby not a sport.

:D

I'm in tucson... what about the mammoth how do they compare to the savage and t maxx?

I would go to Competition Hobbies in Tuscon, and see the differences in person. They have Savages and T-Maxxes in stock. They also have a huge inventory of parts, and a great electric indoor track. John "Casper" will help you out there on Saturdays if you need help with tuning the first few times.

Savage is the better all around truck in my opinion.

I hear the savage is the strongest mt out of the box. I own the mammoth and it suppose to get up to 52 mph. the weak points are the shock towers. They bend pretty easy. Team17 upgraded his to 5mm towers and siad it is really strong. Also the Mammoth is bigger than the t-maxx and savage. all said and done I believe what ever mt you got you will be happy with.

I have a 21 converted maxx and a orion 18 maxx. If you don't want to constantly be wishing for more power and constant issues with stupid design flaws, then don't get the maxx. It's a good first timers truck just because it's all set up and ready to go.

To be honest, the first thing I dumped was the 2.5 engine. I hated it. Always too hot and low power. I put in a different 15, got better reliability, but still lacked in the power dept.

I then converted to a 21... man talk about a fun truck to drive. Then I had to upgrade pretty much everything to handle the 21 power. Transmision, cvd's, diff's. I also installed as much aluminum as needed (bulks, shock towers, servo mounts, diff cases, trans case(not sure if this was necassary)). All said and done, I should have bought the savage.

That was over a year ago. I have since traded my stadium truck for another maxx. I converted it to 2wd and put an orion wasp 18 in it. Now I drive it mostly because my 21 maxx is too much for me to handle without breaking something. Money has become a factor as of late. The 18 2wd maxx gets quart after quart run through it with minimal damage.

As for working on, the maxx isn't bad, the savage looks like a headache. To me, the pan style mt's look the easiest to work on since space isn't so limited. You can move things around where you want them more easily as well. The Associated looks and reads like a good truck. The mammoth looks easy to work on.

In the end, it's your dime. But if you want power, I suggest starting with something that has a 21 in it to begin with. You will be much happier down the road.

So can anyone guess how fast it is, or how fast it is compared to some other mt's?
We clocked a few Savages this weekend.

Savage .25 with stock engine and some upgrades hit 31mph
Savage .25 with P3 engine and still breaking in hit 33mph
Savage .21 with .26 engine in it trying to find the sweet spot hit 27mph

So those that want to make their Savage hit 40mph, better start lightening the load and getting the bigger engines in a really fine tune. The P3 looked like it had crazy power waiting to be unleashed. I wish the guy that had it was a regular bash participant. He just happened to show up, and was working on his truck. I would love to see what the P3 can do when fully broken in.

shewtro, if you want an MT...go with the Savage. Note that MTs are not built for speed. They are built to run over just about any terrain and with enough speed to make it interesting.

Buggies have great speed (we clocked a few of those also, a couple over 40mph). They are tough as nails, but they lack ground clearance. What they lack in the all terrain category they more than make up for with flying ability.

If you want speed, that can only really be found in the onroad category. HOWEVER, I find it pretty boring to drive really fast in circles. I'd rather a beast mid-range speed and the ability to go anywhere.

Just some food for thought.

How does the savage .21 compare to the newer one? I've found those for a lot cheaper and I'm wondering if its worth the extra cash to buy the .25.
