Hey all, when my son was born i gave up a lot of my hobbies to be with him and spend the money on his needs. He is now 14 Months and loves monster trucks and got him a Losi Megalodon (his favorite monster truck) and watching him get excited when I run it around and flip it made me get the itch too. We have both been hooked ever since. I ended up getting my boss into it and it has been great for our work relationship and it’s just been good fun in general. He’s bought me 2 RCs just to say thanks for all I do at work and to share the hobby with him.

I've kinda fallen in love with the buggies. Had a slayer pro, Raptor R Ultimate, Arrma gorgon, Mojave 6S and then when I got my Kyosho buggy and Arrma Typhon 3S I realized the Buggies were my favorite so i sold the others. I just ordered a Kyosho Neo 4.0 and have a Neo 3.0 now along with a few other rigs. I fell in love with the Neo (MP7.5) platform and it’s been a lot of fun. My son loves watching them zip around and hearing it rev up.

My question is, I really want to try a team associated kit or a MP kit from Kyosho. But being new I’m wondering if it’s a good idea. I was talking with my local RC shop employee who was building a Team Associated rig and man was it pretty. I just feel like may mess something up and don’t know what’s good or bad and what components to pick. I was looking at the new Adam Drake 4 motor and then saw the price and realized this hobby can be really expensive but is there a law of diminishing returns on things like Nitro motors? Appreciate all the insight going forward. Learning the tuning side has been fun, i definitely lean more towards nitro myself. Appreciate the help and any advice. Not sure if there is a beginner friendly way to get into the kit building side of this stuff. Just not sure where to start with it all if that makes any sense. Thanks again and I look forward to hearing back from some long time hobbyists.

Welcome sir! 🤘🍻

If you’ve “fallen in love” with the Inferno line from Kyosho-I’d say your timing could not be better.. Kyosho recently released their MP11 nitro buggy, and IT IS KILLER.. Building a kit will also help to familiarize you exponentially over ANY RTR vehicle (not to mention they’re literally TWICE the quality, durability, and capability over their (not so related) brethren… If you plan to stay in the hobby, the kit will absolutely save you money (and headache) in the long run.. As far as motors go, the AD4 IS a good one, and you for sure get what you pay for when you go OS Speed, as well as going with a top tier race engine. They’re an investment, and will treat you as such. Ease of tuning, and longevity are unmatched. There are also deals to be had on engines, servo’s, radio’s, parts, etc.-provided you are informed on where to look, or where to get coupon codes, free shipping, vendors that do not apply sales tax, etc.. I would definitely go K-car over Associated-don’t let the blue rope you in! 😅

Again-welcome, and if you’ve have any questions, definitely feel free to ask! 🤘🍻

Wow! I need a boss who buys me RCs!!! 😎🤣
Thats pretty cool!

I personally think staying with Kyosho is the way to go. Some ppl here may think I'm biased because Kyosho RULES!!!!

But I actually think Kyosho makes a better buggy. You have experience with the platform, brand... seems logical to stay with them if you like them still.
The MP11 is AWESOME!!! 😍🤯

AE makes nice buggies. I have no faith that parts will be availible for them in the future tho.

Seems like NitroPro is making pretty crazy servos for pretty great pricing. I am looking there currently for a Mad Wagon.

What radio system are you using right now?

Do you have any used gear currently?

Are you looking to get into racing or is this strictly back yard and no rules?

@Littlemotor is prob the most active 1/8th scale nitro member here. I would trust his input about brands, motors etc for sure!
I'm sure he will have some ideas for you.

I believe its fair to expect a loss on your investment. Once you start your motor, its officially 'used'.

Buying used might not be a bad way to go if the budget is holding you back.

I have a Neo 3.0 and Neo 4.0 currently. Might take the advice given to me and look into building an MP11. Definitely want to race them. The radio i use is usually the ones that come with them. But i understand building one will require a lot more parts and accessories that is not included in the kit. I can probably throw $2500- $3000 at an MP11 build comfortably when the time comes. I just dont think I know enough to build one from scratch and pick out the right components

The kit provides the “knowing enough”, as you never will until you begin.. As for the Parts choosing-I was trying to say that I/we can absolutely help with that. Been doing this seriously for 40yrs, and 1/8 off-road for over 20 now… That budget will absolutely cover you and then some. I’m always happy to provide guidance to anyone who asks for it.. I’ve also got some of the most detailed “build threads” around imo.. While they aren’t K-car stuff-90% of it translates over just fine. Simply select a vehicle showcase, then scroll down until you see the link to the build thread for it.

Also there are TONS of video’s on YouTube for the K-car specific builds-search Ryan Lutz first, but there are also many others..

Nothing to it but to do it. I like that mindset. I’ll order the kit this week and start researching motors and servos. Do you have any recommendations for radios? I'm an open book there. Appreciate all your help. And yeah, Ryan Lurz is the reason I went with buggies. Love his videos. Not really looking forward to the painting portion lol.
