Can anyone explain to me the reprocussions (if there are any) of running an esc that has a higher amperage output than that of the motor it's controlling. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Also let me apologize for not searching, so to all you trolls out there who's pet peeve is repetetive topics I'm sorry.
 
That will not be a problem. The ESC will only supply what the motor asks for. A too low amp ESC on a high amp motor is bad news.

And the chain continues this way, a battery can not have a too high amp rating. It will only supply what the ESC asks for.

So The battery should have a higher rating than the ESC, which in turn should have a higher rating than the motor.


To my understanding that is.
 
There is also a discharge rate which is listed as a "C" rating. Most ESCs and LiPo batteries have one. For example a Castle Creations Mamba Max requires a minimum C rating of 30 and the battery must be able to match this rating or damage could be done to the ESC (this info is from Castle Creations).
 
C rating must be combined with capacity to get a discharge rate. That's why I prefer using Amp rating, it's more accurate than C rating.

For example, for my 4s 1/8 e-buggy, I use lipos of minimum 120A continuous discharge rate. They are 4s 5000mah 30C turnigy.
