Years ago, a buddy of mine gave me one of those Walmart general lees from when the 2005 movie came out. Didn't have a controller. So for awhile it sat on the shelf collecting dust. Then I had the idea to take another car and take out it's "brain" and controller and wire it up to the motors in the general lee to make it move again. It was fun for a while, but it was never fast enough, and I could never get it to jump. Fast forward to now. I want to put a real axle under it, because 1) I want to get some sort of suspension on it. 2) the original axle (if you want to call it that) is starting to fall apart. And 3) both my son's are starting to get into the hobby and it's fun piecing this thing together with them. The width between the rear wheels is 2 and 3/4 inches. Does anyone know if there is a full axle that wide available anywhere? And what would you recommend for suspension?

Last picture is my new addition to the growing collection. This excavator is a blast!

I agree with @NCNitro. Finding a chassis the body will fit on will be far easier, and make for a much better RC than trying to modify that toy grade chassis. What is the wheelbase and track width of the stock chassis? I would get those dimensions and start your hunt. Based on the width between the rear wheels, it sounds like it may be close to 1/18 - 1/24 scale. Maybe look at the Losi Mini T.
