New to RC. Ran into issue upgrading Redcat Apex...Any help is appreciated

New to RC'ing. I bought a Redcat Ascent 18 Apex. I was upgrading inner and outer portals yesterday and today. I am using Injora inner/outer portal covers. The right inner/outer portal cover went on with zero issues. The left has been horrendous. I spent 1-2 hours last night, and 6 hours today, putting it together, taking it apart, putting it back together and on and on...and I could never get it together. I was sure I was doing something wrong and still may be.

I finally took the right one apart to try to see what I was doing incorrectly with the left, and the large portal gear are nowhere near the same in size from the right side to the left.

I attached a picture showing the large portal gears. The larger gear is the one that I cannot get to work no matter what I try. Is this a manufacturer defect? Could I order different portal gears that would work? Any other suggestions?

How many portals did you have apart at the same time?

I think I read that they geared the front differently than the back but thought that applied to the diff's, not the portals.
[This is from a 75 yr old that doesn't know bumpkuss about this stuff, but still tries.]

I would expose all 4 portals and make sure they are uniform on opposing sides. Did you replace the gears with different gears? If you just did the covers, then something just got swapped around.

The portal gears are indeed different sizes. You most likely as mentioned, just got them mixed up. If you dont get it sorted, let us know, I can pull my covers and take a pic for ya.

Best 1/18 platform in my opinion. The quality and performance are outstanding.

Another thing to consider, since you said you bought the Injora "inner" kit, so I am assuming gears? The standard Acsent 18 and the Apex axles are not the same, so if you got a kit for the standard 18, that might be your issue?

You all solved my problem. The Apex comes with outer brass covers. I swiched the Apex branded to outer to the back and installed the injora portal cover and knuckles up front...I mixed up one of the front and rear gears.

All of of us just kep buying and building these things, its a natural progression
But it is NOT an addiction, I like to think of it as a simple obsession...coupled with a sickness
