What RTR you interested in? Looking to buy? I can't stand Amazon & they screw buyers, especially with RTRs. Open boxes, busted returns, etc, no good. Or Aliexpress, nope

The guys mentioned most of the good ones.

I also like www.helidirect.com
Great support. Lots of small scale stuff too.

For ebay, there are a few good sellers, but I mostly used GoNitro Hobbies. They are good people.

For rc stuff ebay. Amazon had good rc stuff back in 2010 or so. Now it's Chinese garbage for the most part.

I try to use the local shops. Amain is my go to for kits as their prices are great. They send out coupons as well.

I would focus on a particular brand/model of car first, then explore which sites are available to get the RTR + parts.

I highly recommend a brand that has been around for at least 5+ years and has been well established for long term part support.

Many brands on Amazon are typically 1 off production runs with virtually no parts support and they disappear after a couple years leaving you high and dry.

Chances are, with MAP pricing being so common, you'll see same prices on RTR platforms throughout the interwebs so stick to well established shops/stores mentioned above for coupons, sales, free shipping, and discount codes. When looking for parts, it pays to be a savvy shopper as some companies like Horizon Hobby, Amain Hobbies sell on Amazon and eBay. Saving $5 on a body, $2 on a set of arms, etc., etc., it adds up. I use that savings to justify buying upkeep items like shock oil, bearings, and Corn Flakes.

If concerned about a "fishy looking" store/site... just ask.

Sounds to me like Bill is recommending Traxxas. 😜
LOL

For those not aware of the joke, I no longer support Traxxas for reasons explained here:
I no longer consider myself a "basher" though I have spent the majority of the past 35+ years being a basher and recently have focused primarily being a club racer.

That said, if I were to buy a basher brand for a family member today, I would more than likely buy them an ARRMA. I do not own any ARRMA products, however I have spent many hours testing/tuning ARRMA cars for other drivers who show up to the track in my area and have seen how much more durable they are than most other RTR brands on the market.

As far as entry level race grade RTR's go, I would highly recommend Caster with my experience documented here:
If anyone wanted to build a race grade kit, then my personal preference is HB Racing:

Gosh we never realized that.
