I currently own a savage xl with a picco p3.28 and a revo with a picco jl.26 so I'm into nitro and now looking into buying an electric rc. I got a co-worker interested in the hobby and suggested an electric because of less maintanance n tuning.. He ended up getting a Traxxas stampede VXL 2wd. We drove in the warehouse and took outside and now I'm HYPED into getting an electric.

The stampede is perfect in size not as big as my rigs. I'm looking into getting the same but the stampede but 4x4, hpi savage xs flux or the hpi bullet st flux.

i need help buying. do all electric come with reverse? I want a better rig than my co-workers stampede. any suggestions, advice, tips or questions please post.
 
For the most part yeah most if not all Ready To Run electrics will have reverse. The HPI savage flux, or any other Flux, will be VERY powerful and very fast, will kill your buddies rig. The Savage is the way to go out of what you listed. Might check out the Traxxas Slash 4x4 too though, great rig and its also brushless and lipo ready. Going lipo will be the key to great performance, you will need a lipo charger too for that.
 
Out of what you listed Id get the Savage XS Flux. Although the XS is technically a mini....Its either 1/12 or 1/14th scale so it will be slightly smaller than your friends Pede but it is 4WD, takes a beating, and its fast as crap.
 
You certainly will not go wrong with either the Savage XS Flux or the Stampede 4x4. Both will hold up very nicely and both will be stupid fast.

I will say, it seems to me that the Stampede has many more hop-up parts than that of the Savage XS.
 
That is true Woodie and a good point that wasn't mentioned. I'm not a big Traxxas fan but the Pede 4X4 isnt a bad kit. I also forgot to mention that the Savage XS can run on 3S but everyone that does just tears the truck up....its fast as crap on 2S though so its not a big deal.

More punch and longer run times, plus they're lighter than a nimh pack and they don't have the power drop that a nimh pack has. Just be sure to have a lipo capable charger, and vehicle.
 
That is a very good deal if you ask me. The Lipo alone is usually over $100. If I had the coin available I would consider jumping all over that.

Like Schrode said, Lipos give you longer run times and more power to your vehicle than NiMH packs. A decent balancing charger is necessary to keep it in good shape, keep that in mind. Hope this helped.:)

Yeah, those dang over expensive batteries.
I was just sharing some conversation, over at a popular Helicopter Forum, about my near, Align T-Rex 700 E DFC HV 3GX 2.1 build.
Fellow mentioned that: " Shelled out a grand for 2 packs, fast charger and power supply."

a good place for lipo batterys is at hobbypartz.com. look at the gens or the sky lipos both are very good batterys for the price.
 
Personally Id rather buy a savage xs flux from amain for $297 and then spend the other $100 bucks on a Thunder AC6 and two 2S 5000mAh gensacearespammers Lipos from Hobbypartz. 3S destroys the XS...Check out Jangs XS review and look at how much abuse it takes on 2S and then it destroys itself on 3S. Granted Jang didnt end up recommending it as a kit he would buy at the end but if you ask me 90% of his review was positive so whatever.

The nice thing about that Savage XS is that is comes with metal drivetrain which the Stampede does not and would need with a 3S in my opinion. If you're good with the smaller size (even smaller than the Stampede) then yes the one you linked above looks to be a pretty fair deal.

There are other options out there with better charger, battery, etc but still that package isn't horrible.

The xs flux is a great little basher. IMO, 3s is overkill on this little thing. Durabilty seems pretty good, so far the only thing I have busted was one shock end.
 
Lipo, Lipo Hardcase, n Lipo ROAR approved??? And 20c, 30c, 40c etc.??? 7.2v vs 11.1v?What are these terms in buying Lipo batteries?

I also noticed from the video greywolf posted that Jang couldn't fit the gensacearespammers lipos in the battery compartment. What brand lipos do fit?
 
LiPo stands for Lithium Polymer battery chemistry which has a higher energy density than the previous generations of batteries such as NiMH and NiCDs.

A hard-case LiPo is a battery with a hard covering to resist punctures and abrasions when racing or under general use.

ROAR is a racing sanctioning body that provides rules for RC racing. Most current hard-cased LiPos are ROAR approved.

A LiPo battery's "C" rating is how much current it can offload. The higher the C rating the more current the batteries can put out to the ESC. I personally won't run a pack on my rigs that are less than 25c and preferably higher than that.

1s,2s, 3s, etc is how many cells that are present in the battery pack. Each cell has 3.7v so a 2s cell would have 7.4v and a 3s would have 11.1v. A pack showing 2s2p would have a total of 4 cells: 2 sets of 2s cells running in parallel giving a longer running time at 7.4v.

that batt. is sweet... but ouch $400 almost. but what set-up could you run it on?to put it on an rc5b flux?

Hi,
The high power batteries which go in the high powered helicopter models...
Please go to YouTube and Check out an Align TRex 700 E DFC HV 3GX. Preferably doing hard 3D flying maneuvers!!

The power is needed there, more than anywhere else.
Now you see where I'll be needing several sets of those higher priced batteries.
My TRex 700 E Super Combo kit should be here within the next couple weeks.
