In terms of raw invention, ideas and discoverys we, historically, are the world leaders in almost every field. I find it hard to believe that our ingenuity has stopped. However my knowledge of current technological advances is limited!

People may have taken our inventions further and improved them but...we started most things!! Check out this list and this is only a VERY abridged list.

Bicycles, Disc Brakes, Cats Eyes (the reflective bits in the road), Tin Cans, Cordite, Crossword puzzles, Depth Charges, Diving/Scuba gear, Electric Motors, Electromagnets, Fax Machine, Gas Mask, Holography, Kelvin Scale, Jet Engines, Lawn Mowers, Light bulbs, Locomotives, Penicillin, Periodic Table, Periscope, Polyester, Radar, Radio, Sewing Machines, Steam Engines, Submarines, TV(!), Thermos Flask, Toilet paper, Universal Joints, Vacuum Cleaner, Viagra(!) AND

.......THE WORLD WIDE WEB.

Imagine living without some of these.....

So, our country kicks more ass than yours. :jk:

Ok.. now that this has been brought up.. who really did invent the web.. not the www. but the actual Http:// I thought it was a bunch of college professors here in the U.S.?

As for the fights lol.. we do tend to stick our necks out and do for other countries... On a political level I have no idea what motivates it. On a personal/people level I think the american people just can't stand by and watch innocent people of any race/religion/creed be persecuted or tortured for their beliefs.

America is a country that has been overprotective when it comes to prejudice and discrimination. Your looking at a country where even our children are born with rights.. uhhg another subject.. heheh..

As a way of life here looking out for other's individual rights, it's almost impossible to turn a blind eye to persecution tyranny no matter where it may root itself.

LOL, well.. I'll give you an Idea here in the town I live in.

50% I would say live from $10k- $12.5k a year.
Barely enough to rent a place and buy a used car on payments. Income supllmented by food stamps, and $200.00 cash a month (state goverment)

20% Here make $15-20k a year decent money here
Enough to have a nice car on payments, maybe buy a home and dress your kids the way you want.

20% maybe make $30-50k a year enough to buy a nice house, have a couple of nice cars

10% make over $50k a year here and are considered wealthy.

There is a huge gap in this town you are either well off, or poor there is no in between.

Wow, I wish NY was so affordable. At 50k, someone is doing ok for themselves but they are not buying a nice house, which would go for 500k to 800k+ where I live. You can get a poopy house in a poopy hood with no yard for about 250k. At 25k a year, you are on welfare in NY.

Sir Tim Berners-Lee

Correct. Sir Tim Berners-Lee is credited with inventing the http protocol and hence it's use as a means to (hyper)link pages distributed across a "web" of servers.

Vint Cerf and Bob Kahn are credited with inventing TCP/IP.

The internet as a resilient communications network of course has it's origins in the US DoD ARPANET project.

The ARM microprocessor core is a British invention and is the crucial component in billions of mobile phones, PDAs, hand-held consoles, set top boxes and network hardware.

Thanks niggle.. I was always curious, and never did do the research myself..
Tesla.. now there's a brilliant inventor..I actually did some serious research on that guy just for the fun of it.
