Yeah I wish

while that is true in general, we must also remember that employment works differently as well. the rest of the world recieves a ton of technology from the uk. you see, employers are required to pay the government the same amount that they pay their employees. so if the employer is paying an employee $20/hour he must pay the government $20 for every hour that the employee works. this is where better equipment comes into play. if this employee has a better tool to help him work faster, then this will eliminate the need for more employees (more or less) thus saving the business owner heaps in taxes. workers are usually pushed to work harder and since no employer wants to hire additional people- jobs are a little harder to come by, especially the ones that pay good.

right?

right?

Where are you talking about?? Here in the UK?

Are you talking about salary or tax??

BTW the Average wage in the uk is (at todays exch rate) works out to $50,000 a year...I don't know if that is higher or lower than the us.

lol...thats a lot higher i think. seems like the average here would be about $20k or so...too many jobless bums living off the government.

i was talking about salary and tax. the info i am basing this off of said Europe if i remember correctly, but its been a while since i read that. it said that for every pound or dollar or whatever that was paid to an employee the government would get the same amount from the employer.

You are half right!

Basically in the UK the employee pays income tax at %21 on virtually all earnings and 40% on all earnings above approx £34K and a further 11% on all earnings for something called National Insurance....and the EMPLOYER has to match this to the government....your actual take home salary is not matched and paid to the government. We do have a lot of other insanely expensive taxes too like inheritance tax....basically if you have the misfortune to die 40% of whatever you leave go's to the government.

So yes we probably earn more....but life is more expensive too...my mortgage for my very average house (3 bed semi with a small garden) costs me £750 a month....

There are only 2 unavoidable things in life, death and taxes.

Sorry for the long NOT nitro thread.....Collari's rock!!!

LOL, well.. I'll give you an Idea here in the town I live in.

50% I would say live from $10k- $12.5k a year.
Barely enough to rent a place and buy a used car on payments. Income supllmented by food stamps, and $200.00 cash a month (state goverment)

20% Here make $15-20k a year decent money here
Enough to have a nice car on payments, maybe buy a home and dress your kids the way you want.

20% maybe make $30-50k a year enough to buy a nice house, have a couple of nice cars

10% make over $50k a year here and are considered wealthy.

There is a huge gap in this town you are either well off, or poor there is no in between.

An average construction worker gets paid $15.00 an hour, he costs his company a total of $30 an hour after taxes and salary.

Things that are availible to everyone at no cost in the U.S.

Emergency hospitals:
Do emergency surgery same day. Average here 15 minute wait time. If you are in need of emergency health care you get it. With no mind to where the money comes from.. pay for it later if you are so inclined. From heart surgery to pnuemonia

Emergency services.
police that can be at your door in 15 minutes almost anywhere in the U.S.
Ambulance that can be at your door in less the 15 minutes.
Fire dept same 15 minutes or less.
Diasaster relief forces (hurricane etc)

Social service
State paid public transportation
Free lunch at school for kids who qualify
Programs that pay your heat/utility bills when you can't
Free counseling for alcholics domestic problems or just about anything.
Free job services.
Animal control (keep stray domestic pets under controll)
Free immunizations and diasease controll.

Things we take for granted.
Roads that go anywhere we wish (concrete or asphalt) Maintained year round 99% of which have no toll regarldless of weather, even in the mountains.
Access to a restroom phone within 15 minutes of almost any location.
School buses that take our children to schoool anywhere in the U.S.
Postal service that delivers anywhere everyday but Sunday
AT least 3 other parcel/letter carriers if we don't like the U.S. postal service
Ability to drive 15 minutes and purchase almost anything we want same day.

**Available to any family even at poverty level.
Power
Water
Heat
Phone
Internet
S
So you see here in the U.S. even if you are poor by your OWN choice, you will recieve most of the benifiets afforded to everyone if you don't pay for it, the goverment will.

Here in the U.S. if you are poor and homeless, you still have the ability to get an education and become what you wish. You are only limited by your desire and ambition.

Yep all your fault!! Did you get the answer you wanted though?? try stormerhobbies.com....

Bear in mind you will get stung for VAT when whatever you buy gets to customs here......

I disagree with one thing here, like 90% of the world technology comes from Texas, California, and Asia. The UK is really not a technology player to my knowledge. What do they produce?

Lemme dig around a bit and come up with some stuff the we are leaders in....

sorry- i was only thinking about my line of work. there are several tools that i use which were actually invented in europe and made by a company here that specializes in exotic fabrication of solid surface and tools for the trade. i have bought a few tools from this company and they have cut my own labor to a third of what it used to be. i didnt mean to mislead or provide you with false info, but there are some other things that came from accross the pond.
