Oooooohhhh!!! Thats a good one! All sorts of funky happening here!
Tamiya seemed like a force to be reckoned with back in the 80’s. Kyosho too.
Tamiya will always be Tamiya to me.
I expect it to be lots of plastic. Needs upgrades out of the box. Not likely going to be my first choice for a racing buggy.
They ARE fun! They are a bit of fun, functioning art with some crafty and crazy designs. They all had awesome box art too!
Tamiya had some buggies that did ok back in 5he day. The Fox and similar chassis and the HotShot chassis cars were pretty good little buggies!
Tamiya did compete in on-road.
Kyosho had some entry level and all out race buggies and on road too.
Kyosho made some cool buggies with some iconic designs.
The Javelin is THE Kyosho I think most ppl recognize. The cage is awesome!
Those pin tires loik like they would poke holes in your foot if it ran you over...
I had a lot of fun runnin- both brands.
I think Kyosho was more competitive as a race buggy.
I think they held their own in on-road as well!
Kyosho also went into nitro where Tamiya did not.

Was the Optima mid actually a mid-mounted motor buggy? Was the benefit better weight distribution?
The first Optima and lots of other early r/c were designed with dirt track racing in mind.
The rear design put weight on the rear axle for extra traction while keeping the front light. It also changed steering because the motor was behind the axle like counterweight almost.
The rear motor design was used for dirt for this reasoning. There are still companies today making a rear motor dirt car.
The mid motor is mor evenly balanced over all. it puts more weight on top of the suspension and springs and puts the weight of the motor toward the front of the car.
The mid was far better on carpet tracks.
Were they as in depth as Kyosho?
Kyosho did nitro for years.

I had to fight my fat thumbs and tiny print... 2 pages of cars and trucks!
I knew of some but I thought it was phased out quickly for Tamiya. šŸ˜Ž

Was the Optima made by Kyosho? I used to confuse the Optima (name) with the Ultima.

Well, Honda is getting closer to the monster truck side of things. It won't be long now...
Only took em 20 years. 🤣 they lost me at v6 and awd. If I wanted tgat I'd get a brushed touring car. šŸ˜µā€šŸ’«šŸ¤Ŗ It does look nice but I like rwd with 4x4 option and a good 8 cylinder.

Kyosho made both the Optima and Ultima.
Very similar cars, Ultima being 2wd Optima, Salute, Javelin (all same chassis) and Optima Mid were 4x4.
Obviously I really like Kyosho.
I'm not trying to sway you but if you get a chance to check out their history, Kyosho has built some very cool kits along the way!
Its a fun history lesson if nothing else.
Tamiya is the same way for me. They just had SO MANY KITS!!! They weren't ALL winners but even the loosers have a place in r/c's history.

Yessir-the RC10, and the JRX-2. 🤩 Those were the days!
Yep! And Made in USA to boot!! I still got a couple Losi GTX nitro stadium trucks along with some NIB spares. I'd like to run them again, but knowing how it ends kinda kills the desire.. maybe, we'll see.

Crap. I should buy a monster truck LOL.

I can't wheelie anything.
The wheelies are cool, for about 5 minutes, then I'm over it. Just me. However, putting down enough power and traction to just "hang" the front end while hammering down a straight away on track is really cool IMO. Different strokes of course. šŸ»šŸ‘šŸ˜Ž

Your making that above Honda seem like a feerari. 🫠🤪

I like the IDEA behind all the new gadgets etc but as a thought, steps built into tailgate make $600 tailgate $2500. Tailgates get beat up!
Storage in bed floor.
I have absolutely dented the snot out of the beds of my f/s and S series pick up beds over the years. Storage in them?
Maybe they figured a way to make the lids crush proof?
The biggest issue of all I have with ANY of these new pretty 4x4's is the amount of gadgets they put in them.
I don't know "THIS" truck but the trend for 19 camera angles and built in sensors everywhere equates to every cracked taillight costing WAY more than it should!
I'd take the price of a new truck and restore an old Chevy or Dodge first.
You can build the hell out of an old square body for $50k.
I'll bet that Honda isn't much cheaper. I might be way off on that though. It's been a few since I was new car shopping.
All that said, the Honda itself LOOKS MEAN!
If it wasn't digital comtumerized blah blah, I'd prob really like it!

With today's interest rates, and the fact many car dealers want more than sticker for popular models... will $800 (per month) even get you there? :bored:

Same here. Waay too much tech for my liking. This applies to any auto these days though. Bad enough I'm carrying this "spy" device called a phone in my pocket, LOL.
Make mine a 70/80's Ferd, preferably a beefy one ton "camper special":cool:šŸ‘Š

What is that thing 🤢
Concept. 🫣 šŸ˜‚

In other news... the thread's so-called $800 budget proposal never seems to be available in one lump sum too often for me. I just spent some coinage on shocks for stadium truck. I need at least two SCT bodies. Lurking around at other people's toys is always bad. Now I have a plane on wish list. WTH! Almost buying someone else's MT roller, and then realizing what's needed to make the thing a running reality...

I'm outta here. Gotta mow grass and think a bit.

Taking my own advice... I've been drooling over some Tamiya kits tonight.
The Tr-15T is SO COOL!!!
