Yep-the Ultima, and JRX-2 were released within a couple months of eachother. Nothing else in 2wd off-road buggy stood a chance with those three in the mix.. That’s when dedicated Tamiya Classes were born all over.. 😅

I raced both, one with my RC10 on a custom Composite Craft graphite chassis, and Team Pit Stop chain drive transmission with Andy’s/MIP suspension, and had a NASTY Hornet (I know lol) that I ran in the stock Tamiya class.. Same as today in 1/10 stock classes, those cars are more modified than anything else there.. Everywhere I went with that Hornet-there wasn’t a single “stock” Tamiya, or Traxxas Cat (the only thing Traxxas had at the time, and was allowed in the Tamiya Class) that could touch it… REALLY upset the Fox, Wild One and HotShot guys..😂
My ultra built Hornet was f`st as heck in a straight line but it struggled in turns.
I will resto it and post it some day.
Those CC chassis were so cool!
Thats a very cool retro buggy right there!
I remember a belt drive trans but all the chain drives I knew were Kyosho. Very cool!
I had a Traxxas Cat in 1988. Came fully assembled. It was quite a step up from the Tyco Turbo Hopper I was used to.
Lol! So why aren't we restoring this while we're at it?

Haha , great idea 😃 But mine are looong gone. I also had a Lobo2 before entering hobby-grade RC.

I used to have a cool old honda 3 wheeler. If I recall, it never worked right so it was quickly stripped for cool rubber tires!
I wished I kept it, thinkng it would likely be a cool collector for someone now.
Even though they weren't great, some "toy" r/c's were BAD ASS!
I wish my memory was better... the black lifted Suburban in the JC Penny Xmas catalogs... OMFG did I NEED that truck!!!
Never got one but MAN was that thing cool!🥰😍🤩

Oh the Xmas catalogs from JCPenny and Sears were like bibles to me during the holidays. That feeling back then was beyond magical.

I totally agree! We (kids) would spend HOURS looking through those pages trying to find JUST the right stuff to pick out.
I feel old and in the way when I say things like this but... it really WAS different and magical back then!
I feel like I grew up on a different planet than the one we are on today.

We found out about a sick dirt track today. So we took the Maxx there to stretch its legs. Lots of fun.

How do I post vids from an iPhone?

Same here. A totally different reality in those days. Nintendo with no online stuff. Picture tube TV’s. Going to the mall was actually safe and fun.

YouTube unfortunately. Can’t direct post videos from your phone
Ok gotcha. I have pics of the new “track” but the pics don’t really do it justice.

The new spot

Looks like little man having a blast 😍
He sure did. Soon enough I’ll be joining him. When we got home he took @ 45 minutes cleaning his Maxx.

I was at the local hobby shop today picking up some aluminum shocks for the new old Rustler and I got talking with another dad there with his kids. He told me about this track that someone made for BMX but it’s been abandoned so he and his sons go there and made a makeshift platform to stand on and neatened up the track for RC use. And it’s only @ a mile from my house. So we went there and tested it out 😃

And so it begins 😂

Crap. I should buy a monster truck LOL.

I can't wheelie anything.

Tamiya really used to try some fun stuff with their kits! The mono shock system was certainly a rare thing to see on r/c!
And don't forget about Mugen's A.W.D.S. mono air shock Bulldog rides
