We could have predicted, many of us have been down the same road, LOL
As to the aluminum chassis, I personally don't see any of them as crappy. Sure some are better than others, but for average use they all work as intended. Even when I did manage to bend one on my TT back when, I stripped it down and straightened it, reassembled and still used for a while..eventually I did bend it again. Which is when I made my own. I don't think there ever was an aftermarket chassis for that model.

@Littlemotor is right, the Tekno is 7075 as standard. Stronger for sure, but since it's intended for racing they mill out quite a bit of strength for weight reduction. Enough so that the aftermarket makes chassis for those as well. Most all the hardcore jumping enthusiasts end up on an upgraded chassis regardless of brand.

Bottom line is, anyone who goes for huge air either bends the stock aluminum or breaks the stock plastic chassis. There are upgrades for both in most cases, but I'd say wait until it happens before troubling yourself with it. May never happen. Money always goes down the drain, memories last forever! Enjoy the bonding time with your son!!😁👍🍻
You’re 100% right. No need to get hung up on something like that when there’s not even an issue yet (or ever).

The rtr’s will come with the basics to at least get you going out the box (at least all the ones we got have).

Tip, check the wheel nuts out the box and then again after a minute of so of running it, we lost the wheel and nuts on at least three I can remember on day one 🤣 (woulda thought I learned after the first one 😂)

I'd recommend Team-EDS tools. They're quality tools. I've had mine for over 15 years now and still going strong. Hex drivers are something you do not want to go cheap on. At bare minimum, you'll want a basic metric hex driver set and a body reamer. I'd also probably go ahead and get a set of metric nut drivers too.

Actually….. The “milling” ADDS strength… 😉🍻
 
It's funny how that works ain't it 😉

Been doing this long enough to know lol… And while I am not a tool & die man, or legit journeyman, I’ve worked in a BUNCH of fabrication, and custom machine shops over the years.. 😉
 
You take off metal or plastic and it SOMEHOW makes it stronger...
When you do it correctly; yes. Doesn’t matter WHAT the material is. Surface area, and angles..

Triangles are strong. Look at rollcages.. Bridges.. airframes…😎🤘

Truth.

I designed fixtures to machine complex parts, and triangles is where it's at. I removed material to create triangulated gussets and risers, and it made a huge difference in rigidity.

If the pyramids were cubes, they'd have fallen over a very long time ago.

I was soooooo gonna mention BOTH of those, as they’re some of the best examples, but I figured I was already full-nerd lol 😅

I'm skeptical about it adding strength, maintaining the most while minimizing weight I can understand, but, I'm no machinist or engineer. I can't argue. I'll take your words on it. 🍻

I can understand gussets for a bridge, as well as the pyramids, the weight of either structure being solid would work against them if solid or a cube.. but not sure how effective the theory is with a 3 or 4mm plate of aluminum. Again, no expert, no argument from me.

Just like a hollow anti-roll bar in a full-size racecar is stronger, lighter, and allows less torsional flex/twist than a BIGGER bar that is solid…
