I would go with the 4x4. Many reasons. With the 4x4 you have rear and front wheels pulling the vehicle vs just the rear thus having less stress along the entire drive line. You will have much more control with the 4x4.

With my personal preference, i enjoy the 2x4 because it is more of a challenge to drive especially on a clay track, and short grass.

Hmm this is a hard one, I remember what wheel spin did for me as a lad. Having it do mad things or the capability of doing mad things is kinda nice...I will be remember forever as the Uncle that gave him a wicked model car.

I hear what you say and I agree a 4X4 will be more controllable but will it be as much fun.? Are there any videos flying around of the 4X4 ? I will do a google and see what I can find

Can not wait to see his face in a week or so's time when he lights up the car.

I will do some more research on the 2WD vs 4WD before I make the final call tommorow.

Thanks for your input it may well be that is the way I go....just want to challenge my final decision for the moment.

The 4x4 is a more capable offroader than the 2x4. Do a YouTube search for Em and check out some of the videos of each.

Thanks for the headsup on the differences between the two models and the pointer to Tower Hobby.

I would love to go the Ultimate version but I need to do sanity check. My original budget was $200 - $250 then I join the forum!! Seriously the quality of information gain in a very short space of time has been amazing and I realised that what I wanted to provide Declan as an experience was not achieveable at the amount I had originally set out so I dug a bit deeper.

I have just bought 2 X LiPo batts and LiPo charger with delivery $139 and if I go the TRA 6808 (which I am) I will be looking at another $360 so $500+ is coming up fast.

I also want to get a safety Polymer charging bag and some Traxx connectors hopefully from the same place I buy the car. So I need to draw a line in the sand. Would love to go the extra mile...... I think I already have

I am positive the combo that we have come up with is a LONG way from what I was originally thinking about and Declan will be absolutely thrilled with what he is about to get.

I have just contacted Tower Hobby and they have all the bits I need and they have a promotion of free delivery on any order over 99 dollars PLUS $15 discount on orders over $125! So I got all the bits delivered free and some extra discount. epper:

Got to thank everybody here for their help especially Alpine who was firing answers back quicker than I was asking them!

I am sure I will have some more questions as in a weeks time I will arrive in San Francisco where the gear will be, I will have to be the resident expert and bring Son and Father up to speed on how to use and charge batteries safely etc etc.

You guys have made what was looking to be a difficult decision easy, not only that explained why spending X will give you Y ......I know if I had not found this forum the outcome would have be dramatically different.
