Measure here John. This will show that diameter being bigger. You're still measuring across the slots. And use the inward area of the jaws whenever possible. Only use the tips if you have to. See the video below, and watch the last tip. It explains why.

this is the current hitch i have on the gooseneck, its about an inch too tall so I'm trying to shorten it. i am in new territory here and nervous lol. is a lot of filament if its wrong.

hopefully this will help to level out the trailer a bit

So you just scaled it in Z axis? That isn't the way you need to shorten it because it is going to skew those angles.

That's part of the designing gig.... design, test, waste filament, throw that hunk of plastic in the trash after you hack it up for fitment.

Have you thought about putting a riser plate under the trailers rear suspension to level out the back instead of trying to lower the front?

i realized that before i printed, i noticed the side top had also shrunk, I'm just wanting to shorten one specirfic part

Print on a glass bed. PETG and a textured build plate is always bad. Glass is your friend. PETG prints like a glue

Petg prints fine on my textured plate. Use it more than pla.
