These are large parts in ABS, the fact that this A1 is doing this with a rigged up enclosure is crazy.

Yeah, you use it to print a solid layer right before the part layer starts again. It allows you to print parts in basically any orientation to optimize strength in your prints, because the supports are basically printed just like the part is, at the attachmrnt point, with no gap between the supports and part. When the print is done, soak it in water and the support material dissolves away cleanly, leaving a perfect part.
 
Does anybody else just sit (or stand) there and just watch the printer going to town???
I do as long as my body lets me sometimes. Like watching paint dry, but more interesting.

Imagine printing a body with nearly ZERO cleanup after finished 😉

Yeah-good luck with that garbage… You’d be better off by far with a Ziploc baggie.. I know ya have a few of those you could choose from..🤷🏻‍♂️😂
 
I never saw the result of that body; did it not work out?
Worst vacuum formed polycarbonate I’ve ever worked with. Everywhere there was a hard outside corner (which was all over the place on that particular lid), was microns thin.. It was like trying to cut liquid mask over a literal Ziploc baggie.. pissed me off bad. Was a GIFT for a fellow deserving member, wasn’t cheap, and I had HOURS tied up in that thing. It was gonna be arguably the sickest body I’d done imo..

All good man, don’t worry about it.. I figured I’d jinx the thing the second I made the thread. Is what it is.
 
the pva IS convinient.. sometimes,
it involves a LOT of filiment swaps, which makes a LOT of purge, and adds a LOT of time to the print. so its situational for me so far,
heres the same piece with only thing changed being the support filament
a 14 hour diffence, and jumps a LOT of the stats up such as cost

Are you printing the entire support structure the same as the print?

I don't understand the question?
What do you mean entire same a sprint?
I honestly haven't fiddled much with the support setting other than to turn them off or on based on the print
The few I printed WITH the PVA tho yeah I just substituted the support filament from PLA to PVA. Other than that I changed nothing so I'm leaning towards a yes?
Are you suggesting there's a way to setup it to print a base for the support out of PLA then swap it over to PVA when it approaches the point Where the supports are actually needed?
