I bought my savage last Jan/feb from my LHS. Right off the bat I decided to do the spider diff mod, so I had boughten that also. The guy told me that he would install it for no charge if I wanted him too, since I hadnt done it before, and was more of a thank you gesture for buying my truck there. So I told him have at it. He told me to go out for lunch and come back and itd be done. So I go out to eat and bum around a bit and come back and its all complete. I never really thought anything of it until a couple nights ago when I was gonna change the diff oil. So I break it down and open up the diffs and see a single gear in there. I could have SWORE there was 2 pins and 4 gears that needed to be in there, so I came on the net and looked around. Sure poop. So then I rip open my front diff wondering if he did that one instead and the same thing. :ponder2: So tonight I found my reciept and sure enough it says the spider diff, but doesn't show it being installed. (I have the spider diffs on the way and will now do it myself) But I'm curious what would you guys do? I thought I did the guy a favor buying from my LHS but ended up taking it in the back door. I also try to support them as much as possible, but I just can't hang with the doubled prices, so I do 75% of my shopping on the net. Anyway, what ya think I should do? Anything??

that sucks,

Too bad, if they're just in it for the money, then take your money somewhere else...its a jugement call....don't want to burn bridges y'know.

so they charged you for crap they never put on it?? thats bull. i would bring that to there attention, I'm the kind of person that dont put up with getting ripped off.

Yeah.. I'm not the one to get ripped off either, but its my only hobby shop within a good hour and a halfs distance. (This ones 15 minutes from me). I do want to tell them, but I dont think its gonna do much good since it doesn't say intallation, and I want to be able to go in and buy parts if I need them ASAP, but then again I dont want to support a place that would do something like this.. Thats why I was curious what others would do.

$21.90 So it isnt alot of dough, but its more than double of what I just paid for it at Tower shipped to my door. (I just got the whole spider diff set, and a spur gear for $17.10)

Does the guy who originally sold you the diffs still work there? I would confront him and ask him why he did not do the mod. If he denies it I'd take my business elsewhere.

Same thing happened to me from an ebay auction I won, was supposed to be two diffs with 4 gear mod and only one had it done. Not much I could do since he did send me the diffs. Knowing how these jackals on ebay do business if I left him a neg feedback he would have left me one also.

I think I would call him on it. Not rant, rave and cuss him. Tell him you had it apart, it wasn't in there and you would appreciate the parts that you bought. Then I don't think I would go back.

People like that are hard on the hobby. It's expensive enough without someone trying to rip ya. Then they act like they are doing you a favor when ya buy something.
These guys open a hobby shop and think they are the only place you can get it from. Most of my stuff comes from the net. There are 2 decent stores an hour away. Got one 10 minutes away, but I won't go there.

Support your local hobby shop..... Only if they are a good one.
Just my 2 cents. Sorry for the rant.

oh I know..lol..

Normally I'm the same way, but it is nice that if I do bust something out on a bash, and want to keep going I can run into town and pick it up (Most the time). Better than having to drive a hour and a half for something small. Or wait all week ordering it off the net. If I had another LHS to go to, Id rip the poop up. I dont think the installer guy still works there. Everytime I go there now (Maybe once a month since its winter) its been the same guy and same girl (No, shes not hot either. Shes a big un'). The dude thats there now is kinda a bunghole, and spends most his time reading comics whenever I'm there, so if thats who I'm gonna end up talking to I might as well save my breath than having to try what Spider diffs are and the situation. (dude gets dumbfounded on Fuel filters...lol)

again its only $21 or so, but its more of the princable ya know? Plus $21 is almost a gallon of fuel..lol.. And I sure as hell aint donating money to hobby shop..lol

I understand you don't want to piss off someone you might have to depend on but I couldn't let it go without at least mentioning it. From what you said there not doing you any favors anyway.

At least mention it to them Andy, maybe it was just one of the employees scamming and not the owners of the Hobby Shop. They wont ban you for mentioning it.

I'm with Ryhton, Andy. I wouldn't necessarily go in expecting a refund or parts, simply because it's been just over a year, but you do need to raise their awareness all the same.

A smart business owner will take it as a lesson learned and work to improve it moving forward. A stupid one will ignore it and tell you to go pound salt. If they tell you to pound salt, tell 'em thanks. You can always go back and buy parts that you need on the quick, just pay 'em in pennies!

Depends on the shop. The one I used to work at sucks (since I left). I was in charge of doing repairs/upgrades, and have NEVER shafted a customer. Altho, I did have to keep an ofna monster pirate for almost a week, but that was due to work load more than anything. The customer got the repair at cost because of that (turned out to be missing a 10 cent o-ring at the intake of the engine).

Since I've left, I've heard of a ton of incidents like yours. Frankly, it doesn't surprise me much at all. These shops think that people who buy the 'basher of the moment' (at the time it was the tmaxx) are suckers, flat-out. They'll buy the blue hopup part and pay whatever price is on the tag without asking about pros/cons.

However, you do come across the occasional honest shop. They're rare, but they do exist. In your case, I'd hazzard a guess and say the guy probably thought 'oh, he will prolly play with this truck 5, maybe 6 times, then shelf it. He won't know the difference between stock and aftermarket'.

Anyways, I'd call them up and ask if the guy that did the install/sale still works there. If so, then I'd proceed to file a complaint with the owner, and tell them what-for. Also mention that because of this, you'll most likely never buy from them again, and mention that you can get better deals on what you need online. Places like that hate to hear the "Tower" word.

Yeah I'm definatly gonna have to say something. I was thinking about it a little bit, and how stupid of the guy. I mean, they know that I like to hop up stuff. They just about wet there pants when they saw my Maxx and how much I had dropped into it. So for the guy thinking Id NEVER open my diffs is pretty stupid. I was skeptical about having someone else work on my Rc in the 1st place. (Esp a brand new one). I guess now I know why even more..lol.. I think I'm just gonna run it by him, but not push for a refund or be a prick about it (Even though Id like to). Hopefully since I'm in there all the time and am a pretty good customer they'll do the right thing. If not, Ill be buying even less parts than I do now from them. Hey Rush, ya feel like opening a chain? How bout one here in Mn??..haha
