What is the best Spektrum 4S G2 battery pack for use in the Super Baja Rey?

Regardless, those batteries are so overpriced and deliver mediocre performance compared to other LiPo's for less than half the cost. To each their own. But when you create a thread asking what is the best garbage battery I can get, on a forum where all of the knowledgeable folk will steer clear of that smart tech crap, expect some negative feedback

I don't care about the cost as much as I care about the convenience of the smart chargers and smart batteries.
To many other things to going to want to mess with all the extra plugs and balancing and jacking with the dumb batteries. LOL

I had hopes that there would be some members here that use something besides all these brands I have never heard of.
I think I found my answer.
The Baja rey does have two plugs looks very similar to the UDR setup.
So, I should be good to go with the 3S or 2S Spektrum packs I already have.

The picture in the manual was only showing there to be one plug but I found that pic above that showed their was in fact two ports.

This was what the owners manual showed and only mentioned one plug as well.
So, it was leading me down the path that I might need some sort of jumper or just get a large single 4S battery.

Reguardless of others opinion of Traxxas or Spektrum batteries, be their cost, or their preformance, their tech, whatever the case.
I like them, they work great for me, and I am sticking with what I like.
I have dozens of them on the shelf and really not looking to change.

I am learning today that apparently, I am the very rare person on this forum anyway that is very happy with Their Traxxas and or Spektrum batteries. LOL

I get what you're saying it's nice to have things simple especially when it comes to using and charging batteries although i'm mostly used to using other brand's batteries vs the oem batteries they recommend for my cars. Although some of my cars are modified compared to stock they have aftermarket ESC's from like Hobbywing or Castle Creations but a few of my cars have oem esc's in them like my Vendetta, Outcast 8s EXB and my current X-Maxx which all use Spektrum smart esc's like the Frima 100a - 160a v2. I also now use Spektrum radios with my cars that can use and take advantage of the smart batteries it's just their so expensive. But you do you man, Buy what makes you happiest.

Your charger goes for about $200. That’s about twice what mine cost and can only do half the work.
If you would read up on that thread about batteries you would know about all the dumb batteries.
I feel like I’m a pretty nice guy, and I’d like to think I have helped a few along the way. I came here knowing nothing with a Losi 22s asking some rookie questions about kv and what not, and some of these guys were very patient and courteous. I like to pass on what I have learned and save YOU time and frustration. Some members lately are testing a lot of our good peoples’ patience when we are just trying to help.

That and the two companies referred to here have taken what was a hobby and they have done their dambdest to make everything cheap throw away toy grade garbage just shy of completely alienating their customer base, who used to be primarily knowledgeable folk who liked to tinker and build their RC's. The world has lost it's ability to think. I bet 90% of the people out there in the world today don't even know how to change their tv channel without a remote. How in the heck could they ever build an RC car? This wasn't always the case. Smart batteries are just another way to help people forget how to think and use their brain for critical thought, as they lure folks in by making life "easier", all while selling you a pile of proprietary garbage.

Didn't bother me.

I honestly been taking the complaints about price and all the negative opinions with a grain of salt, so to speak.

Thinking why would anyone buy something they thought was a rip off or thought was junk, and or had such a poor opinion of it in some way.

So with that logic, I was thinking what are the odds anyone ragging on them has a S2100 charger that I just bought that came out maybe a year so ago and half dozen Spektrum G2 batteries that came out a couple years ago.

Thinking to myself if they had owned them odds are it was a long time ago and good chance it was a totally unrelated product to what I have been buying.
Likely why I have had excellently luck and experiences with the ones I have owned.

Honestly the only Traxxas Lipo's I have ever had that were bad, all came with used cars that I bought off ebay and likely sat in a closet for years until owner sold it to me with the RC I bought from them, and they were simply too far gone to be recovered. Essentially they would not take a charge so I tossed them.

Not one Traxxas battery that I can think of, that I bought new has failed yet, I am talking 20-30 of them I never counted them, not just 1 or 2 or 3 and some are now nearing 10 years old at this point still working fine.

I don't know what problems others have had most comments I see are that they suck, they cost too much, they have poor performance.
Yea they are pricy. Thats why when I buy them, I wait for sales to hit and grab a couple here and there.

I do occasionally put a storage charge in them if I know I am not going to use for a while.
Nothing too crazy as far as maintenance at all, probably not even considered great care just decent at best.

They all still work great, I get long run times and no issues charging, just plug them in and they work, plug them into the charger and they charge.

What more could I possibly want for them to do. That is how I see it anyway.
They simply work for me.

Well they are the worst. He didn’t exactly say he didn’t like them, I did though.
I can tell you that $200 for a charger is double what you should have paid.
If you are sold on the spektrum then so be it. I am glad you found the answer you were seeking though. Now, you just need 2 2s batteries to power that rig. Get the biggest ones that fit, you may need to measure the trays when you get the truck. Most batteries are a general size. Get a high C rate for better burst capability.

It doesn't require owning that charger to look at the specs and see thst is a severely overpriced pile of garbage.

You can buy a charger that will blow that one away for half the price.

And yes, Spektrum and Traxxas batteries have been tested to be garbage. No need for anyone to buy them to see for themselves when a knowledgeable member here put forth his time and a lot of money to test Lipo batteries from a ot if different brands and found these batteries to be very low performers to batteries that cost far less.

This hobby is very much a collaboration of like minded people sharing their experience and educating others so they don't make the same mistakes. Some folks don't care to be educated. Nothing wrong with that. But you indeed fall into that category of people that don't care about getting the best bang for your buck. To each their own dude. But I wish I had money to throw away like you do. I'd have me a wall full of quality RC stuff and a hot maid to clean it every day

You will not ever understand with the zero desire to progress “logic”, as WE have ran (or stood right next to our buddies that did) what you have, AND saw the light, and run proper adult batteries and charging equipment now. Bottom line is that we all have something to compare, while you do not.. Do you though bud.

Just keep an eye on the internal resistance, that is an important feature in any charger.
In the meantime if you haven’t checked out the work @Greywolf74 did for all of us, give it a read. Maybe you will learn something. Too often we go round n round on “what is the best battery”. This thread has it.

There seems to be some confusion as to how to filter all the data and just be able to look at what battery is better than what. If all you want to know is what LiPo is better, what you want to look for is the "voltage under load" (VUL). The higher that number is the better the lipo is. All you have to do is look at the "VUL" chart in my post and it has what batteries performed better than the others in decending order. If a lipo on the list is higher than another then that lipo is better.
The rest of the data on there is really more just for the sake of knowledge than anything. doesn't...
