I swear I just seen pic's of someone mounthing Shocks to a bumper for this purpose
 
Yeah, i did to. Can't remember where though. He had the shocks zip tied to the bumper and the shock tower. Not sure how well it worked. Looked a tad unstable to me.

I went with the "door stopper" route to allow me to get rid of the soft plastic bumper mounts. As i was constantly bending the crap out of the bulkhead brace bolts. Now its bolt, bulkhead, brace. A much more solid connection.
 
I swear it was posted on this forum. They had 2 shocks. not great pictures they were blurry
