Hey Guys,

I have installed a werks clutch with carbon shoes and I was curious to know if I have it installed correctly. Does anyone know the caliper messurments for that? I have the damn thing as tight as I can get it. I have heard however that if you don't have it perfect.... your screwed. Thanks guys.

Tom

I'm not 100% on this (I've never had one) but I'm pretty sure that your settings don't have to be perfect because you can adjust them. I think its more of a trial/error thing then anything else.

I'm sure if I'm wrong somebody will correct me.

Start with one thread showing off the clutch adjustment nut. Tighten or loosen to how hard you want the clutch to engage. More threads showing puts more compression on the spring, which will make the clutch will engage later, similar to switching to thicker springs on a conventional clutch. Make sure you use loctite on the clutch adjustment nut after each adjustment.

Here is what I mean by one thread showing on the clutch adjustment nut.

The carbon shoes have a wide range of adjustment on them because they engage progressively. The rulon shoes have less range but more grip, and you have to compensate for them warming up in your adjustment.

I liked the carbon shoes best because they had a combination of good grip and very good wear. The rulon have a little more grip but do not last long.

When you are making your adjustments do them in half turn increments. If you have to tighten the clutch nut all the way down to keep from early engagement, then move up to the next thicker spring. I had mine set at 1.5-2 turns with carbon shoes and the gold spring in my buggy with a Nova P5.

Ok... I will check mine out when I get home. I believe I am close to your settings although I am not sure. I will try to post some picks of my setup. I have class tonight so it will probably be this weekend. I am using the "green" spring which is somewhere in the middle of the stiffness spectrum. I have heard the carbon shoes rock in the wear department so as much as I get to run a set of shoes should last a while. Thanks for all the info and pics guys. That was fast!

Did not know that... Thanks for the info! I am glad to know that it is not so technical to set on of these clutches up as I had once thought. I was told if I didn't have everything set perfect, that as soon as I fired it up, the clucth would basically eat itself alive..... thus destroying the clutch, and the carbon shoes.

I must say though... it is nice not to have to fart with clutch springs!

I know this is an old thread but I was wondering of you guys had any opinions now that you've had some time to run for or against the Werks and Orion clutches?

I have no experience with the Werks, but have plenty with the Orion clutch. I run it in both my buggy and truggy. It saw a gallon of hard racing abuse in the truggy with only some discolouration of the shoes to show for it. No wear and excellent performance all day.

Hey Coach,

I think the werks clutch works great. I run one, and a buddy of mine has run one for the entire season. Still works as good as the day it was put on. Silky smooth.

This is good to know. I've got one on my buggy and was wondering about it.
