Where was I?

I've changed my mind about the wheels and tyres. I was going to run the og lite white dished wheels and tyres, but I'm not really sold on the look and I haven't been able to find any the front 2.2" Multi Rib tyres.

So I decided to get some of the 2.8" Twin spoke wheels that are fitted to the later Nitro sports, Rustler and Jato etc. I think they look a lot better and better especially considering it's going to be a shelf queen. Plus the fronts were half price.

I also bought some of the 2.8 All-star wheels in black chrome for the next build as they were dirt cheap.

I have had these wheels & tires in my cart a bunch of times. They look so good I wanted to try them! I need 2.2" to race at my track tho so never bought them. 🤷‍♀️
They look awesome!!!! 😍

I made some time this arvo for this build.

New aluminium bulkhead fitted. It's actually a nice solid piece. I spent a little more $ to get the one piece as the cheap ones were 3 piece and used nuts instead of threading the screw holes. I didn't like that.

Only minor issue is the hinge pin holes were too small. Luckily I had a 3.3mm (~13/64") drill bit which was perfect. Drilled them out. Easy fix.

Replaced some more of the old screws I had fitted temporarily. In some locations have also fitted longer screws as I found the original screws were barely long enough.

Since the exhaust gasket I previously ordered was damaged, I went to order another but decided to buy a whole new header kit which also came with a new gasket and bolts.

Well just my luck, it too has a broken gasket 🤦🏻‍♂️.
I give up. I'm not ordering another. I'll just make my own. I should have done that in the first place.

Did you get screwed here or not? 🤣

I keep a couple rolls of gasket paper and a roll of cork for this stuff too.
Too bad those gaskets are all breaking! 😐

Yer I've got some gasket paper too. Guess I was just being lazy.

You don't need that Traxxas asbestos in your life anyway 😄

I would have blown a gasket. 🤣

Sooo, I must confess. I haven't kept you guys fully up to date with this build. I may have missed a step and all the recent work.

I've had to ignore my family for a day and a bit, to make time for this build. If I didn't, I'd never have time for the hobby. Me time. A man's got to do what a man's got to do.

So I've been on the tools and haven't updated this thread. Till now.

Rewind ⏪⏪

Front assembly back in situ:

Theres only 5 large screws and the servo saver screw to remove, to remove the front assembly, so its easy to r&r.

RX box and antenna in place:
I still need to source 2 screws to replace the rusted and rounded screws.

The keen eyed may have noticed that the engine was installed a while ago. Although I only just finished installing it. I was held up waiting on header gaskets. Every time I bought one, they'd arrive bent or broken. After 3 arrived damaged, I gave up and made my own with 0.4mm gasket paper. The 1000x250mm gasket paper was actually less expensive than one small header gasket 🙄🤦🏻‍♂️

A tip for you and myself for next time:
Install the exh header to the engine before installing the engine. I had to remove all the Ez-Start assembly and use the L shaped allen keys and turn the screws in small increments. It wasn't fun.

Engine and exhaust in situ:

I'm still keeping an eye out for the blue anodised header 4487 or the complete tune pipe and headers 4485. Their a bit pricey though.

Throttle and brake linkages:

Wasn't as hard as I expected to setup. Still waiting on 2 collars to replace the rusty 2 ones.

Fuel hoses and filter installed:

Wiring:

There's 2 harness. The power harness which include the battery holder and power switch, and the Ez-Start harness. I forgot to take photos before I installed them.

Old school power switch:

The wires were excessively long so I sortened the starter motor and engine ground wires.
1000023613.webp

I then used harness wrap tape to keep them organised. I think it looks better.

I've powered it up to centre and operate the servos. All working good.
The throttle and brake servo and linkages were easy enough to adjust. I used the Traxxas 2055 if I haven't already mentioned.
The steering servo (Hitec D625MW) sounds good. I'll just have to limit steering at full lock as the TX does have dual rate or end point adjustment, so the steering knuckles are stopping the steering beforethe servo. It's going to be mostly a shelf queen so I'm not too worried about that.

man, why the not so ez-start? you never plan on driving this thing or something?
If you read the thread, he is building this as a shelf queen, and all original.

I've never had an issue with it.
Mine on the Jato worked good til it didn't. But I was able to fix it. @Chubaka - I forgot about that. I did take the Easy Start off once to fix something on it if I remember correctly.

Oh, and I have some more parts to send ya, along with an aluminum carb 🤪
