Are they fair to compare, which is better for the money? I know that the Sv3(4600kv) will be faster but why is it so much cheaper than the VXL combo?

Because vxl is a traxxas product lol. I don't know much about the dc3 but I will say the vxl ain't all that hard to beat. I personally favor the radient Reaktor brushless system

^^^^^^^You must be pretty new to the hobby then.

The vxl and sv3 are about the same. Why there's such a huge difference in price I'm not sure. Personally i would buy the traxxas, I've had way less issues with traxxas than castle... I'm 0 for 3 on not having to have an ESC warranty replaced by castle..no vxl issues

The SV3 is the first direct Castle product I've bought (Had a couple axial ESC's and HPI) for my T4.2 and so far I cannot complain as the adjustability is endless with the castlelink. I was (still am) a Novak fan but they are limitted on how adjustable they are

I have never had a failure on my Mamba Micro ESCs. I would go with another one in a heartbeat just because of the flexibility of the programming offered by the Castlelink.

SV3 over the vxl... I agree that the customer service of Castle has declined over the past few years but the product is still a better performer.

VXL's are always pricey new. I love both esc's, had many of each, more of the sidewinders though but I am a huge fan of the castle link so I try to go with it if I can. I also have had vxl's burn up on 3s where as the sidewinders I've ran many setups on 4s with no issues.

I've had two mm escs go up in flames and the mamba max pro I bought didn't work from the factory. I agree they may perform better but they definitely do smoke well to..lol
