Last week I was contacted about a new, unopened, Hyper 7 PCR Pro kit. This is pretty much 'it' in the Hyper 7 world. The gentlemen informed me he had been keeping it under wraps and knew what we were doing with our Hyper 7 so he wanted it to go to good use.

Think of every upgrade possible for the Hyper 7...and that is what this kit consists of. You can from CNC to CF, C-hub to PBS, Torsen (Spider) to Standard. While it's ~7-8 years old the quality is as good as it gets. So yeah...I jumped on it. ;-)

Here's the thing: I'm not going to full build it. Instead it will simply mixed in after analysis/testing to make the beasts of beasts. People think of Hyper 7's as RTR bashers....but the parts alone on this specific kit are worth $700-900. This just ensures that we have the best Hyper 7 parts available to us, and over the next year we'll be testing it all out and coming up with one mean-ass buggy. ;-) What's in this p

That's a great score for sure Nitro.. I remember Paul Coleman parts were the shiznit back when nitro buggy racing was in its hey day. They weren't cheap back then, I'm sure they're not cheap now.. Fioroni was another high dollar buggy parts supplier I could never afford. I just kept to my cheapo Thunder Tiggers..

I've never seen anything like it..quality wise or option wise in a single kit. I was told they stopped making them because it was only a select few getting them (pro racers). And yes, the parts today alone ala carte are crazy expensive. I don't even know where to start with it but in 6-12 months I"ll have as monstrous as anything out there. What sucks is that it's my son's buggy--but now I want it! :)

Dang that was a great find! Hurry up and do the unboxing! Lol

I had it at the track this weekend and this thing turned a lot of heads for sure. I mean it was easily the meanest, loudest, and most violent buggy out there. The engine was a little too much for the buggy, so instead of taming the engine, I'm working to get the buggy to handle the power it's been provided. I cut the clutch spring tails a little and that let it slip some. I mean it's not uncontrollable, but on high bite surfaces it can pop wheelies. After making some changes we got it to handle well but this will continue to be work in progress as I turn it into a track thug.

Below is a pic of the new practice outfit. It's rockin' that old skool Hyper 7 look. Ha!

Damn buddy, she's looking hot! The Trout abides.

I like the old Hyper bodies, I use them on my Thunder Tiggers.

Thanks...yeah I too like that mid 2000's Hyper 7 look as well. That PCR kit I got came with some funky colored items. Neon seemed to be the look of the day back then. ;-) Today I cherry picked the front clip from the PCR pro and ended up with a CF steering plate, a thinner front sway bar, a CNC front tower and chassis brace. Each item lighter and as - if not more - durable than the ones I'm currently running.

I do have a few questions about swing-shafts and lay-down servo trays, does anyone have experience with these and curious what the advantages are...if any?

Lay down servos are a bit of a pita for me. I hate how the servo wires come yeally close to the front break disc.

With the servo upright it enables the kit designers to center the servo better

This is what I've noticed on the agama A8.

Look at the way the servo sits

Heres my jammin x2.
I would think its the same steering effect. But to me lay down is just more of a pita when trying to replace the servo or replace the horn. I have to take out the gas tank and the side stone guard to fully get to the servo.

Thanks. I actually had a lay-down style once (in my Exceed Forza). I normally just take off the entire electronics when working with them anyway, The only advantage I can see by switching it is that is a CF tray that comes with the PCR Pro.I'd imagine if there were tangible advantages it would be more prevalent in today's designs. It's only .10oz lighter so can't justify introducing anything like that when the current links setup works great.

I think the intension is to lower the center of gravity and I supposed it could help in racing applications but, I have to agree with Jose, servicing the side mounted servos can be a PITA.

Does anyone have the two speed conversion?

The only thing I know about it is that it's not for me nor my Hyper 7. Below is recent pics. I've got it down to 6lbs9.60oz (without body/wing/tires/fuel) making it stronger at the same time.

Also some action pics of it in its practice uniform. ;-)

is that a OS 25 in a Buggy ? :whhooo:

Hell yeah it is! This is the engine I'm using while I continue this build...and it's mean as poop, Neal.

Remember when I asked about Bonito vs Spec II for my Xray....well the 'other' engine is going in this. ;-) Since

Actually, this Hyper 7 is a mixture of pretty much every possible upgrade available for the entire Hyper 7 series. Below are are pics of just a FEW option parts I have from it that is from a brand new PCR Pro version. I have enough parts (standard and option) to build three of these...but instead I am testing out everything to make only ONE. which I hope will be the sickest Hyper 7 going (at least it will do everything I want it to). ;-)

The pics are just a small sampling of what I have for it, aside from standard I'm talking Spider/Torsen diffs, PBS/C-Hub, CNC/CF the list goes on and on. And right now the 25 is killing it in this buggy.
I don't want to take it out but know I'll eventually have to.. Unless I convince the race director "Hey, I'm just driving a $290 RTR buggy...can I still use this engine at least?" ha ha

What should I start with for a track setup? I have C-hub and 2-speed conversion. Definitely need transponder :(

If you want my opinion I would not convert to 2-speed if you are going to race it (or even bash it). I don't see the two-speed doing anything for you on a track, and due to all the throttle blipping (along with the chassis flex) could not be good for the gears....just my opinion. I imagine for on-road it's great.

Regarding transponders I use MyLaps. Check with your track though as some will rent them out (they're not cheap).

As for setup that depends 100% on your track. Can't speak to two-speeds and not sure what engine you are running...just make sure you can keep the front wheels on the ground. When I put my OS 25 in the Hyper 7 it was all I could do to stop the front from going up 3-4 inches and that is with a center diff. It's cool for bashing and high speed runs, not so much for racing where you want tires touching the ground as much as possible. Add some;-)

Biggest recommendation is to lighten that buggy up. It can be an expensive initiative, but you will definitely see results. Would also recommend lowering the ride height as much as possible as stock will roll if you get traction. I have mine at about 30mm.

I'm actually surprised at the rear traction I'm getting. Do you have additional toe/caster blocks you can use? What about your clutch...is it the stock (which is not too bad). Imagine if you give more information about your track conditions we can give better setup advice for it....but one thing is for sure put it on a diet. ;-) Hopefully this helps some....

They don't rent. I'll probably get a MyLaps RC4 for $90 on the bay. I'm running badlands right now and a Force .26 with stock clutch and flywheel. All metal gear servos. I haven't been to the track since it's an hour away. I need a one way bearing before I can even run the thing again as well as an RX pack. The two speed I got with the buggy as well as everything on it right now. I need to convert to one speed for sure. Medium compound I heard is the best for my track.

OWB and nitro today after school. Going to the shop. Then the new local track that opened yesterday. Taking Rx pack from the savage I'm selling and putting it in my hyper. Hate tuning force engines.

Works good, just need screws to hold my rotostart back plate on...

Is that stock engine and did it come with roto-start?
