Ugh...Tariffs

Yes, the threats and pushes have been going on for months already though.
Half the planet is pissed off at us or the tariffs.

It has made purchasing my RC parts more difficult... already.
But why they are pissed off is the point... the fact we will no longer take their goods duty free unless they take ours under the same conditions. I'm not in desperate need of anything other than food and drink and those can be sourced domestically so I'm fine with letting the tariff game play out to see if it helps us restore some balance to trade or encourage a return to domestic manufacturing.

I have enough RC to ride out this bump in the road. 🤷‍♂️

I'm trying to buy a radio and a few other electronics.
The thing is, I don't expect that there is going to be a 100% US made radio, rc car, esc... as a result of any of these tariffs.
This is inconvenient at best. End result will be foreign made rc stuff at higher prices I expect.
If US manufacturing rebounds, I'll be happily shocked.

I want our country to do well. I want all our countries to be doing well. Maybe this will help.
I don't really want to pay 25-50% more for maybes though.

Either way, the extra tariff money that is being charged per item is comung directly out of my pocket. These costs arent being split between me and the guy in Taiwan that I'm buying parts from.

There is no American supplier for these parts.

I believe its entirely unrealistic to expect that a new manufacturing facility is going to open anywhere in the US to start producing CVA's for a 40 year old RC car.

I'm not sure what other ppl are expecting out of this economic shift but thats how it affected me today.

I buy 90% of my stuff used, I think I'll be able to live through all of this nonsense. Batteries might go up but MIP, RRP, and RPM will stay the same. This will hurt the Aliexpress shoppers though.

I don't have a single problem with the tariffs. Just in my lifetime I lost 3 jobs because they closed up shop and moved production out of the country. And when I was a kid, "Made in USA" ####### meant something. Today, most people don't even pay attention where their stuff is made. They just buy it, use it for a short time til it breaks, and throw it away and buy another Chinese made piece of garbage. I've bought more kitchen utensils in the last 5 years than my parents did their entire lives, because eventually, they all break, wear out, etc. I thought if I buy stuff like Kitchenaid, Cuisinart, etc it would all last awhile. It's all junk. OXO - revered as a really good brand. That's very laughable. I used to work at the warehouse where it all was first unloaded from the containers after arriving here from China. It's all garbage. I know. I owned their entire line at one point, and the only item I have left is their can opener, which is a complete POS.

It would be really interesting to see how much of our money goes to China today vs back when I was 15 years old. My dad really tried not to buy anything made in China if he could help it. And so did a lot of his friends, bssed on the conversations I remember. You remember the ad campaigns? And when everything made in the US had a big sticker somewhere on the package? And I remember a lot of the things my dad bought never broke. We had a 1960's riding mower that ran like a top, and it would pull stumps out. Meanwhile, his small engine repair shop stayed backed up with work on brands that all sold out to have their junk made overseas. It's time to turn that chit around. Bring it on.

Unfortunately I can see a company or two raising their prices and using the tariffs as an excuse to do so.
In the short term thats likely going to be true to some extent but the market will squash that eventually through compitition/capitalism

There is NO EXCUSE for the greed that drove "Made in USA" off the sides of 'American' tool companies, car companies etc.

I feel like there are going to be a few already rich ppl who profit HUGE on the backs of the imposed tariffs that we ALL pay for.

Unfortunately I can see a company or two raising their prices and using the tariffs as an excuse to do so.
I agree 100%. Any opportunity... 😐

I really hope you are right!

I kinda get the feeling that will naturally sort itself out. People will just buy elsewhere. Folks need to start being more savvy consumers, like they used to be years ago. Look at how all these big corporations have taken over everything. They sit back and get fat on us dumb consumers just biying chit over and over.

There is a VERY good documentary that explains it far better than I can. It paints a pretty disgusting picture of what the consumers and places like Amazon are actually doing to this planet. Definitely - everyone should watch this.

Anybody ever see Wall•e?

Speaking of tariffs. Ever since his announcement on the 2nd, the Euro/USD currency pair is bouncing all over the place. It's got me locked in to a bunch of trades in that currency pair. I need Jesus to step in and make the floodwaters go down! 🤣

We still got 2 of em 😅

They don’t handle mowing duty any more, but still use them around the yard and gardens. Who knows how many hours them K series have on them, they came from my grandpas farm and I know between cousins and I we cut a lot of grass with them back then.

Whoops forgot the quote from @WickedFog post 🤣

Its funny how many ppl will watch that movie and go shopping after its over... or maybe even shopping while they watch it.
The 'hype' of the month is always just that.
I don't really buy a lot of new stuff.
Even my RC cars (except Arrma) are used.
I buy new stuff to restore them with... but I also intend to restore and reuse the original parts that I've been swapping out as spares or another project. Nothing gets thrown out except the bags that my area refuses to recycle.
Ppl NEED to start speaking with their checkbooks and DEF need to make better choices about sourcing their 'stuff' whatever it is.
Buying good quality once instead of buying junk over and over again has always been how I operate.

This movie is my whole point about "breaking the system". WE feed the machine like its our jobs. ☹️

The guy saying that recycling needs to be on the manufactures and not the consumers is 100% CORRECT!!!

I will not shop with Amazon, ali, bang good... 🤮

More than 75% of my tools were made in the US. I would be happy to buy more if Craftsman started saying that again!
I don't buy their tools anymore either.
I do actually follow thru. I WILL stop doing business with a company that does me wrong.
Who died? No more life-time warranty? Swap out my quality made in USA ratchet for a Chinese POS??? BYE!!!!
Snap On tools don't break so the warranty isn't important anyways as a general rule. 🤣

We've ALL been taken advantage of by greedy corperations. 🤬

The problem is it hurts the lower income folks more, unfortunately. It is difficult to find quality products these days that actually last. My husband and I always do tons of research on products before we buy in hopes that we are getting a quality product that will last. It's more cost to keep buying the same thing multiple times because it just doesn't last.

If there is something I'm looking for, I always try to buy from the company direct, if I can. Then I know my money is going directly them and not just some portion of it. I've gotten in a habit the last few years of looking up where companies are located too. I try to avoid Amazon like the plague as they have gotten awful for many years now. Lots of counterfeit items and low quality, you have to be real cared buying from them.

The part where tariffs will affect us more l, in my opinion, is for groceries/restaurants. Groceries have already gotten expensive and now those imported fruits/vegetables, etc are going to get more costly.

Like @WickedFog mentioned the Wall-E world is not that far off. I should know, Thanks to the kiddo, I've watched it probably 30+ times within the last 3 months 🤣

Did you know a lot of the juices you buy here are made from concentrates from China? We can grow some kickass apples and such here. So why are we buying that stuff from China? I stopped buying juice because of that.

Exactly. We really need to ask questions like this.

Totally agree. There's no reason to source produce like that from overseas. Growing up in CA I was always heartbroken when another orange orchard was leveled for housing. 🙄
So far here in WA we have some really good farmers markets, when they open up next month, we solely buy a majority of our groceries from them all through October.
